We're currently testing the streaming of Ogg Vorbis, an open, free audio codec.

Update (2003-01-03): Sorry folks, but we simply do not have time right now to get the ogg streams running again. BBC work has to come first, and until we get more staff, we won't be able to dedicate any time into getting the streams up.

It looks like the BBC were only considering using Ogg Vorbis-- until this past January, as their most recent update says. The rest of their radio programs appear to be in Real Audio.

And yes.  Lots of other sites still stream Ogg.  See Virgin Radio.
