Hi!

What to choose for ripping cds and music management? Mostly i use foobar but i need something like iTunes. Everything in one place. Or is better to choose some ripping software and then import all music into foobar? Because i am searching for ripping software that supports cover art download. Simple to use and with quality rips. Automatic cover art download is important because i have around 200 cds to rip and manually looking for cover art is pain.

Edit: and cover art size is important. I don´t want small ones like 150x150. I want anything above 250x250.

If you are happy with the way iTunes rips, then it may be fine for you. If you want secure ripping and cover art downloading check out dBpoweramp.

If you are happy with iTunes other than the lack of a secure ripper then here is a suggestion.

First rip each CD in EAC in burst mode (but don't save the ripped data). See if AccurateRip reports a secure rip. If it does then reripping in iTunes will probably also give you an error-free rip. If not the rerip in EAC in secure mode and import into iTunes.

Ok thats good idea. But i think that i will stay with dbpoweramp. I finally find what i am looking for. Its good software and can also download cover art. I mean itunes is good player but its just... For windows not optimized (memory). I think that dbpoweramp and foobar is the best option. Thanks.

Only that foobar seems to crash sometimes with no reason in middle of playing.

For the most part, I'm a Linux user, but I also use Windows.  And lately I've been in search of the same information when it comes to Windows software.

I just discovered foobar2000 (and it has one hell of a learning curve - but it's quite cool).

But for ripping and (initial) tagging I've been giving Easy CD-DA Extractor a try and I'm quite impressed.  But since it's shareware, I'm going to hold out till the end of the trial period before I decided to buy.  I've been known to jump the gun and find something I like better later.

I love the album art embedding feature in this program. Very impressive. I embed 500x500 images whenever I can get them.

I used this program to embed art in several hundred FLAC & mp3 files I have that didn't have any art embedded.

Oh and Easy CD-DA Extractor checks against both MusicBrainz and freedb for tagging. 

If someone out there is familiar with this software but knows of something better, I'm all ears.

You should be aware that Poikosoft have been singled out for their use of unethical business practices.

if you are willing to pay for easy cd-da I would strongly suggest you check out dBpoweramp. Its a much more impressive CD ripper, on par with EAC, but much easier to use (IMHO), and it gets meta-data from 4 sources at once (AMG, GD3, MusicBrainz, and FreeDB). Verifies with AccurateRip, automatically downloads cover-art...

I use EAC to rip securely & do basic tagging (Artist, Album, Tracks, Year from CDDB) and have it put the files in an Import folder.

Then I have JRiver Media Center (IMO the best HTPC software out there) auto-import files from that folder.  I have a smartlist set up in JRMC that shows me only files in my auto import folder so I can finish tagging (I add Album Artist, Genre, Ratings, Album Ratings, Album Art and a few QAQC tags: a flag for the file having been ripped with EAC, a flag for it being ripped from an original CD, who owns the CD (me or my girlfriend) etc).

JRMC is something along the lines of iTunes in ease of use, but much more powerful and very customizable.  FLAC and APE support (and just about everythign else) and ASIO... also handles video and photos as well as it does audio.  Like I said, it also works great with a HTPC (in it's menu-driven Theater View).

Sounds very interesting. I will download this app and take a closer look at it.

But what means 'QAQC'?

What fields do you use for the personal info: 'a flag for the file having been ripped with EAC, a flag for it being ripped from an original CD, who owns the CD (me or my girlfriend) etc).'? Do you use the comment field?

iTunes supports two fields, which are elsewere rare on Windows, 'Grouping' and 'Description'. I think of using these fields for my personal information, which I would flag my files with. Are these fields supported by JRMC?
