Any good replacement for my Apple Itouch. Wav/MP3 Player

I have finally had enough with my Itouch. I am trying to find a word to describbe how annoying this thing is. All I really want to do is playback high quailty wav/mp3. I have looked at a few Sony products however I dont know much about them. I just had enough of Itunes inflexibilty, syncing etc. If anyone uses something different I would like to know your thoughts. Thanks

Can you be a little more descriptive on your problem?

Hi There

Just after a good portable wav/mp3 that supports high bit/hz playback. Just not interested in Apple products anymore.

Thanks

If you tell us what problems you have with your iPod touch, then someone can suggest a player that will not cause you the same trouble.

If you buy the iAudio 7 blindly (which is a good player BTW), it could turn out the have a similar behaviour you dislike.

Where do I start.

1. Dont like the idea that you have to sync your touch/ipod to a certain computer
2. Dont like the fact that when I sync music over 44hz 16bit it dosent play them.
3. Cant stand Itunes.
4. Dont the software bundle that comes with the player, way to large/heavy for me.
5. Find it very difficult to work out how to download the music in the correct section ie. albums, compilations, podcasts.
6. Downloading videos for playback, process very long winded.
7. Sound quailty not brilliant.

I could prob give you another 5 reasons however I am sure you get the picture..

On a positive note I like it as an organiser and its wifi ability. But thats not the main reason I bought it.

If videos are important to you then the Cowon iAudio 7 won't be a good choice. The 160x128 screen is just too small. Take a look at the Cowon D2 in that case. The screen is better then the i7's, but still only half the resolution of the iPod touch screen.

If you don't really care about video, then take a closer look at the i7. It's a quality player I almost bought myself too

Where do I start?

1.  You don't have to sync your iPod touch to one computer or to a certain computer.  You can manually sync your iPod touch to any computer running iTunes or appropriate 3rd party software.

2.  I haven't had any issues syncing 48KHz 16-bit music to my iPod touch in either the mp3 or AAC formats.  Of course higher bit music can't be played on the iPod touch.  The amount of players out there than can handle 24-bit music and higher is pretty small.

3.  Understandable, that is why there are plenty of 3rd party apps that support the iPod touch for audio syncing.

4.  See #3 (seems like a repeat of your #3 as well).

5.  What difficulties are you having?

6.  Downloading videos from where?  Syncing them to your iPod touch?  Please explain a little more.

7.  Understandable but iPods have never had top shelf audio quality.  Anyone who conducts research before purchasing an iPod would know this.

No offense but many of the things on your list are about iTunes and not the iPod touch itself.  Feel free to look for a replacement but just keep in mind that the iPod touch is one of the most feature packed portables on the market.  You can certainly find other units but you will downgrade in features and possibly screen size while upgrading in audio quality output.

Just keep in mind that there is no need to have a portable player that can output 48KHz+ 24-bit+ music since CDs are mastered below that and even DVD audio is below that.  Also, you can effectively use a lossy encoder to lower the bit depth of lossless music.  I would even say that lossy encoders can perform better than people mastering the disc as they (people) can introduce human error.

Just my 2 cents though.  In my opinion, if you are looking for a well rounded player with video capabilities and good audio output quality, I would go with the 80GB Zune.  My only complaints about the Zune are the PC software and the Zune's screen is too big for its resolution.  The Zune's screen is about as big (or maybe even bigger) than a iPod touch's screen yet it uses a resolution of 320X240.  Videos are definitely sharper on other devices.  I don't know why Microsoft cheaped out and went with a low resolution screen of that size.

To lower production cost and sell it in the iPod classic price range, a lot of buyers don't know what dpi means and think "bigger screen = better picture".

KornChild has a point about you blaming itunes for your troubles more then the ipod itself, try WinAmp.  Does that support the ipod touch yet?  Still if you really want to get rid of your ipod, I would have to second the zune.  Mainly because I really like the software.  So much simplier to use then itunes.  Still have a look at iriver, they are always making decent players with good sound quality.  The E100 looks nice.

Going to give my Itouch another shot. Does Winamp work with the touch?

For winamp to work with the ipod touch, you have to use ml_ipod.

edit: Looks like ipod touch support is not yet 100% working link.

Hi, I have an iAudio 7 16 Gb and I'm very happy with it (I had loads of players). If you have any question, feel free to ask.
