foobar2000 v2.0 x64 causes sudden restart?

When foobar2000 v2.0 x64 is running, the computer suddenly restarts.
This was not the case before. If you don't run foobar there is no error.
The details of the error are in the file.

The text file you have attached doesn't contain anything useful. It just tells your machine was restarted because of an error, but all the actual error information is missing.

Your machine most likely bluescreened. The kernel showed a bug check screen with a stop code on a blue background and restarted your machine. If it restarted without kernel detecting the problem to be able to show a stop screen, that's even worse.

Most probable cause is a buggy device driver. If your machine indeed only has instability with foobar2000 then the audio device's driver is the likely culprit. If you haven't messed up with your system settings you will have a memory dump file written inside Windows\Minidump directory. Opening that with a debugger could reveal the cause.

It's also possible that you have bad hardware. Any faulty hardware component could cause machine to crash.

And just to make it clear: a user mode program like foobar2000 could not cause a system crash even if it wanted to. Only code running with kernel privileges (device drivers) can do that.

ASUS Xonar Essence ST audio card driver is only offered as such version 8.1.8.1823 Beta. Empty folder C:\Windows\Minidump

When using foobar2000 x86, there is no such problem.
I have no BSOD - when playing, it suddenly reboots.
I'm using the original foobar2000 x64 v2.0, not a third party build.
External components: ASIO4ALL v2.15, foo_out_asio+dsd-0.3.6, foo_input_sacd-1.5.4.

Might of been the ASIO stuff.  ASIO can be buggy with some drivers resulting in crashes and ASUS infamously has had issues with their drivers being subpar.

I think it's because of ASIO4ALL.
does not support DSD. ASIO Driver cannot be played. Use ASIO4ALL.
Not a good pattern.

DSD playback makes no sense with this combination.

Buy a DAC that supports DSD.
Or do you have a DSD DAP? For example FiiO...
Some can be connected to a computer and used as a DAC.
and DSD compatible portable headphone amplifier.
Requires installation of Driver for Windows

ASUS Xonar Essence ST does not support DSD. The DAC chip (PCM1792A) itself supports DSD, but the controller chip (C-Media?) does not, I downloaded the manual from ASUS and there is also no mention of DSD support. Even if the driver doesn't crash in foobar2000 x86 it is still not sending DSD data to the DAC chip.

So just use foo_input_sacd alone and output to PCM to foobar's built-in output devices for your soundcard.

Can you be more specific.
I need to play Flac up to 384/32, DSD512.

You card only supports up to 24/192 so 32/384 and DSD formats needed to be converted so that your soundcard can play them.

In foobar's Output > Devices, choose an output without saying "ASIO" or "Exclusive" that shows your ASUS soundcard's name and desired output (e.g. headphone / line out).

In the foo_input_sacd page use PCM output (not DSD or DSD+PCM) and DSD files should play. If not click the "Reset Page" button and start over and change whatever you want to try out, but the first thing is to use PCM output.

Do not use ASIO4ALL.
Now try to play with standard WASAPI.

My ASUS Xonar DGX is 24/96.
Can actually be played.

Advice: A lot of sound cards and onboard audio are capable of 192/24 for the last decade or so.  The highest sample rate is not always the best sample rate to use either.  Usually it's fine but sometimes it's not.  Stay away from DSD as much as possible.  For one card I had I used 44.1/24 even though it was capable of 192/24 as it worked better for that specific card in that specific system build.

The native ASIO driver of the audio card produces poor sound compared to ASIO4ALL.

Stick with WASAPI as it's usually much more stable in Windows.  ASIO should be avoided.

I have read about it.
How to configure correctly with WASAPI for high-quality playback of Flac up to 384/32, up to DSD512?

No big deal. Amir at ASR sometimes also uses ASIO4ALL in his reviews as well, doesn't mean it must be unstable or must have quality issues, though could be unfair or misleading from the standpoint of a review, like this:

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/motu-m2-review-audio-interface.19911/post-674665

OP seems to be happy and Windows no longer crashes so if anything ASIO4ALL is just using whatever API that works with this ASUS soundcard and avoided some buggy ASUS driver codes that caused the crash.
