quicktime support (via plugin?)

I've looked around little about Foobar2000 support for QuickTime formats, without much success. To my knowledge the .mov container format is documented so it ought to be possible to play the (audio-only) .mov content without even the need to have QuickTime installed. The other option would be a plugin that uses QuickTime to extract playable content. I'm a bit surprised that I have not been able to find such a plugin, is there none, indeed? And if so, is there a particular reason to that?

If indeed there is no such thing yet, I'd be very tempted to try my hand at coming up with something. How difficult (or not) would that be, using the FB and QT SDKs (e.g. hand off the AAC track of a .mov into FB for further decoding), and is there a good tutorial outlining how to design such a plugin?

Thanks,
René

I think you will be far better of using the MP4 container in the future, since support for it is ubiquitous on all platforms.
It's only audiophile if it's inconvenient.

Sorry, but that is not the question (and quicktime is supported on all platforms that interest me).

Is there anything that prevents extracting a copy of the audio stream to a separate file? That's the simplest solution.

That probably goes for all other formats supported through plugins ... should I ask why it is even possible to write importer plugins then?

Interest in support for an all but dead container is probably not very high. Since MP4 is basically an enhanced MOV container, MOV has been essentially superseded by MP4.

If you use the search function of this forum you might find some threads regarding a tutorial into the foobar2000 SDK, and I think there is one included in the SDK download, too. It could well be that MOV and MP4 have so much in common that it would be trivial to implement support, though that is for the main devs to decide.

Ok, will use the search function. Let's be clear, the only interest here that really counts for me in a first time is my own, and it's high enough.

That said, you have things backwards. MP4 is a simplified version of mov, not the other way around, and from what I know it lacks features that keep me hooked on mov. It may not be adopted very widely in the audio world, but that doesn't make it "all but dead" ... statements like that just reek of wishful thinking.
