Wasapi no longer works

Ever since getting my sub today and installing new drivers for my Asus Xonar DX sound card, it no longer works. I have the dll file in components, set it to WASAPI speakers in output. I still hear sound from the video Im watching on VLC media player while Im listening to music on fb2k. Youtube videos do not have any sound however when im using fb2k w/ wasapi.

Any ideas I can fix this?

I was able to fix this problem by enabling the S/PDIF pass-through device in my sound settings in Windows 7. Im confused because my speakers are connected to my sound card's front out and NOT SPDIF. Am I supposed to be using SPDIF in my sound settings?

And doing this causes me to have two volume bars in Windows 7. How can I fix it so that I only have one?

I the ASUS Slimp audio card and what I do is set the default windows sound device to be my internal sound card and set FB2K to go to the WASAPI.  Then I have remote control on of of the sound going to a separate set of speakers for the sounds from my PC.  Make sure your video players are set to use Windows default.

My sound card is set as my default sound device. Wasapi is turned on in FB2k. I dont know how I can check to see if VLC is set to use the default device.

WASAPI output streams music directly from fb2k to your audio device. This means that all other applications are also blocked as WASABI bypasses the windows mixer.

I can only guess VLC works because it also has WASAPI output. Your browser must not.

If you want other applications to have sounds you need to either stop fb2k or use directSound output.
GIGANTIC RULE OF THUMB: If you have to ask questions about alternative output plugins then you should probably be using DirectSound.

I dont want other applications to have sound. I just want fb2k to run WASAPI exclusively. I just cant figure out how I can check to see if VLC is being run with WASAPI/Exclusive mode. I doubt it is because I never messed with VLC settings.

There are soundcards that use hardware mixing which will still produce other sounds during WASAPI playback. Has it occurred to you trying NOT to open another applications that uses sound while you use foobar? The word "exclusive" might give a slight hint...

Well the point is being able to listen to my music while multi-tasking

So it sounds like you should disable hardware mixing somewhere in your xonar software (or allow applications to take exclusive control over the hardware), or disable WASAPI output on VLC.

Maybe I'm missing something but have you tried asking the Asus or VLC forums for how to do either of these?

Hardware mixing has nothing to do with the issue, this is purely a problem in your Asus sound card drivers. VLC has no WASAPI output, and even if it did, it would show an error message when the device is already locked by other exclusive session.
I don't know how similar drivers different Asus cards have but this thread seems to be about similar issue with a workaround.

Yes I didnt think VLC would be using Wasapi output as I can still hear Windows sounds when I am playing a video on VLC. Problem is, I already disabled the SPDIF on my Windows sound settings. Only the speakers are enabled.
