Sony Megabass x2 Emulation

My quest was always to obtain the best sound quality I could get my hands on. I wanted bass, and I wanted it to sound great. I wanted it to be what it should always be, the best thing I love; but I didn't want it to destroy the music that I love. It all started back when I got my first CD player. My very first was actually the Sony CD Walkman (D-EJ761). One of the cool things this thing boasted about was it's megabass system. I would put a CD in, and enjoy. Then I'd goto my computer, play music through ear phones, and sadface. Where's my awesome bass? If you are wondering about earphones, I have the Sennheiser in-ear canal ear phones; they are great, and I love them very much, but a good equalizer can make it even better. Anyways, I tried all sorts of players and equalizer settings, and still didn't feel satisfied, until I found foobar2000, and reversed engineered the megabass equalizer setting from my Sony CD Walkman.

I have already given out this setup to several of my friends, and they love it!! However, just because they love it, doesn't mean you will, does it? But how will you know, unless you give it a try? Well you have nothing to fear, because I'm sure you will love it too!!!! <3



This is what the equalizer settings look like in the picture above. If you want to use this setup, download the attachment in this thread, and change the file extension from 'txt' to 'feq'.

Further Setup:
To ensure that clipping does not destroy your music, you will need to setup the following in the Library Configurations. To get to Library Configurations, goto the Library Tab-Menu up the top of foobar2000, then scroll down the list of options and select 'Configure'.



Find the page in the Configurations Window that looks similar to the screenie above. To access it, click on 'Playback'.

Now that you have selected Playback, goto the part on the window that says 'ReplayGain' and set SourceMode to 'album' and Processing to 'apply gain'. Next goto 'Preamp' and set both RG info bars to '-9.9dB'. If you find that your music still clips, make the dB of the preamp lower (minus).

Other solutions to clipping is mp3gain. I discovered the benefits of this handy tool when trying to remove clipping from my iPod. Make sure to read up about it before usage.

I'll doubt anyone here will be interested in your equalizer settings. A bass boost by 20db is not a "megabass", it's ludicrously bloated and instead of giving you "the best sound quality" it will most certainly ruin the sound and produce heavy distortions, with- or without replaygain. Considering that the Sennheiser CX have a rather bloated bass response on their own, you'll end up with a bass boost of more than some 30db!

Btw. you shouldn't adjust pregain for the means of equalizing. The foobar equalizer has a nice little button labeled "auto level". Pushing it will automatically adjust the EQ to the appropriate pregain.

Thankfully your opinions are just that, opinions. Let people decide for themselves if they want to use it, regardless of your doubts or criticism.

For bass EQ WWAYM NWEQ & NWEQDJ are quite good.

VST support plug-in for Foobar (George Yohng's VST Wrapper ... search the DL from these forums).

I like bass too especially for movies, but that much bass at the EQ level doesn't give you distortion? I prefer to have it at the last elements in the chain, ideally the headphones. The Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5 EB produces very deep and loud bass without distorting the sound.

There's also the "extrabass" line of Sony headphones & earbuds. I personally own the MDR-XB700, they do make a difference.
