I've tried LameFE and it appears to be just about the fastest ripper i've come across. CDex was second. I don't know about the quality though. It's alright, but I still prefer EAC for it's "test & copy" and command line encoder abilities.

It's a little brother of CDex with some good ideas in the installer and the GUI.

Does it use cdparanoia libs for cd extraction?

BTW this looks fun: http://lamefe.sourceforge.net/forums/index...act=ST&f=3&t=18

By the way, I heard of a new format called MPC (musepack or so).
It should be a codec for audiophiles I think.

Do you know about it?

Sorry can't help at this point:

Can you give a bit more information? What is mpc? Where can I get in_mpc?
If MPC is a copyrighted fileformat like Windows Media Audio LameFE is unable to use it for file decoding,

Please give me a few more details.

Thanks and regards,
Thees Winkler.

argh
I was especting that someone who develops a ripper/encoder frontend knows other formats than LAME or WMA. I won't bother downloading that. I'm sure CDex is better, not to mention EAC, which he probably doesn't know either

CDRip by default, but it can use cdparanoia too.
I think MPC is well known only here. Don't be surprised.

Don't be so hard.
LAME isn't a format.
It's reusing part (a big part, probably) of CDex code, so...

Newbie friendly straightforward, little chance for mistakes. I'm giving this program to my girlfriend, because I think it will be less confusing than cdex because the default settings are great and she won't need to change them.

It reach their targets.

One can not know everything.

I think this a bit unfair to condemn the whole program only because I dont know all audio coders out there in the wide world.

Taking into consideration this:

I must have at least a bit competition.

LameFE  uses the Ripping library of CDEx (CDRip.dll) and therefore supports all Ripping stuff CDEx can handle, although not all settings are integrated into the GUI, sometimes less is more - and that was the goal: CDEx is a a really great program but for me it was just overkill for most jobs or lacked some features (Batchprocessing i.e.). That's the great thing of opensource, take a great product and adjust it to your needs

LameFE 2.2.x uses some of the core code of CDEx 1.5 mostly the CD stuff and some of the resampling code. So the term LameFE is CDEx little brother fits well
LameFE 2.3 which I started the development recently will  implement some more advanced features too, like normilization, 2-phase extraction, a better tagging support (+ MusicBrainz), NT-Multiuser compliance etc. pp.

My software never has bugs... it just develops random features...

Is this what I think it is? Wouldn't some form of Replay Gain or Wave Gain be preferrable?

Machinehead: It would. Normalisation is not recommended as you know. It's a waste of time implementing it if you ask me but then I used to use it before I came on HA.
