Request: Option to hide Status Bar

I know that the status bar provides a lot of information and has the volume toggle but when using foobar2000 on a small netbook screen I am trying to maximize the space for my playlist entries/facets. While I can move buttons and volume slider beside the menu bar to save space I cannot turn of the status bar. The information it provides like bitrate is unimportant to me, the track progress can be seen by the seek bar and the volume slider can be added to the toolbar so in the end the status bar serves little purpose. Please consider adding an option in the future versions to hide it.

I have no problem with the status bar, but i'd like to add to the hiding thing as hiding the menu bar.

I'm not sure about the status bar, but I think that Columns UI allows you to hide the menu bar. Of course, it's up to you to figure out how to access the menus after you do that.

Columns UI allows to hide both the status bar and the toolbars.

Requesting the same thing, and possibly hiding the menu bar too (like Columns UI allows for)

If I remember correctly this request has been discussed several times and will not be implemented.

But if you're happy with dui why would you want to switch to cui? I dislike cui a lot. "If I remember correctly this request has been discussed several times and will not be implemented. " If this is the case, I find it extremely selfish from a developer's point of view and I frown upon this. Not like it matters though.

To reproach a developer, who spends his time and money to provide a software like foobar, for beeing "extremely selfish", is itself 'extremely selfish', isn't it?

Fair enough. But it's not like a major thing and it'd be easy to turn on and off right? Don't get me wrong, I love foobar and I think the community is great and helpful. But this is just a little thing, not like a major thing.

As is covered in other threads, being able to hide the menu bar is a user-support nightmare at worst, and a triviality at best.
You risk making the program much more baffling to a lot of people at gain of making a few OCD people temporarily happy about gaining a couple pixels of screen space (until they come to the next nonsensical option request they want added).
As has been stated before in other threads, this isn't likely to happen.

The statusbar, on the other hand, although it provides a lot of information you can't get anywhere else, is probably more debatable.

Also, please keep in mind that this thread, as per the title, is specifically about the status bar. Any more off-topic conversation will be split or binned.

I would love an option to hide the status bar, too!

If I remember correctly this request has been discussed several times and will not be implemented.

In the "Will not implement" list only hiding the menu bar  is mentioned

On windows it seems the general trend is moving towards hiding the menu bar. Windows Vista and 7 do it in explorer; browsers like Firefox 4, Chrome, Opera and IE8 also just use one menu button to save space (you can bring the menu bar up by pressing Alt). But as long as I can put buttons in the menu bar and save the space it doesn't matter much to me. The general trend though is moving away from menu bars and if needed use a single menu/app button.

I too would like the options of hiding status bar especially since all its functions can be easily performed without it.
The text display plugin can be used to display the information & the volume bar is also available in tool bar.

So, if its possible to gain a few vertical pixels on our wide-screen panel witout losing any functionality then I am all for it.

I know that this would be a support nightmare and I know it would be counter-intuitive to new users, however:

I feel this is something that is keeping a lot of people on columnsUI vs defaultUI.  I know I would happily use defaultUI if I could hide the menu and status bar.

I would love to see this as an option, maybe even a command line option or something so that new users can't get themselves into trouble.

I hope in the future there will be an option to hide the Status Bar. Personally I have no use for it. I'd rather turn it off completely. At the moment for me it's annoying having to look at a status bar that you don't want to use and that looks very different from the rest of your setup.

I mean, it's not like that Status Bar is vital or if a user turned it off by accident he would get crazy. I think foobar2000 users are competent enough to properly use a hide/show option.

Most things in foobar2000 are highly configurable. I could configure the Status Bar to display nothing at all. Then why not be able to hide it?
So please dear developers, reconsider your choice. foobar2000's customization possibilities are its greatest strength.
