When was Fraunhofer’s MP3 encoder last updated?

Does anyone know? Is there a version number or specification?

Googling "Fraunhofer MP3 encoder" led me to fraunhofer.de, which led me to mp3licensing.com, which led me to all4mp3.com: its command line tools page has version numbers, though no dates are apparent. However, fraunhofer.de states: "If you are an end user and would like to use the Fraunhofer mp3 encoder or decoder, please use Apple iTunes or Windows Media", so the latest version on the above page may or may not be equivalent to those in the mentioned apps. A changelog/history seems to be what you need; I didn't find any on my brief search.

It is really a very 'secretive' encoder.

I think dBpoweramp has it also.

Thank you for the effort, perhaps someone will be able to tell us exactly!

Downloading the Win32 command line encoder Zip file from the link dv1989 posted shows me that the executable is from May 19, 2008. Looks reasonable to me.

If I don't reply to your reply, it means I agree with you.

Two years since last update? Wow.

Good call, Chris; how typical of me to not think of such an obvious way to check.

Two years since last update? Wow.

That doesn't mean WMP et al. use such old version(s). Encoding an MP3 file with such an app then checking it with something like EncSpot may be informative.

IIRC WMP uses l3codecp.acm 3.4.0.0:

I'm afraid  it means that WMP uses even older version.

Edit: l3codecx -> l3codecp.

The compile date doesn't mean it was updated 2 years ago.  It could be a new compile of something older.

Also, I thought iTunes used soundjam's mp3 encoder?

On which OS? XP, Vista or 7?

7 would suppose to have the most recent?

This file is from WMP11.

I also extracted l3codecp.acm from Win7 installation disc. It has different size, but the same version: 3.4.0.0.
