so, what to do with EAC-cue files?

hi,

currently im ripping some cds in EAC. i rip the whole cd as multiple flac tracks and let EAC create a cue sheet. in this cuesheet, i replace every .wav with .flac, so it should be working. but when i drop this cue file now into fb2k, i dont see the tracks and the console says

when i open the cue file in mediveal cue splitter, i got also an error, but its possible to open it:

so, what do i have to change in each CUE file, so i can use it in foobar? and whats the best program to burn those files again (with cue-sheet)? nero with CUE support?
i already found out that EAC has a copy function, but when i dropped the cue file into EAC, it says, that flac isnt supported.

edit: just another quick question: i use test&copy, but often i dont get a 100% log. the cd is new, only played thrice. so why do i get so often only 99,9%. and is it accurate ripped then?

You don't have to worry about track quality if the rip is accurate.

Don't use medieval cue splitter, last time I tried it (looong ago), it created a huge header in front of the cue sheet which makes it not compatible with F2K.

Use the cuetools "correct filename" function to batch rename .wav to .flac, it's faster, you cannot make misstake & if the .cue is not compliant, like those with a header generated with medieval cue splitter, it will warn you.

Your cue sheet doesn't have that header & I haven't digged to find the problem, but anyway nowadays you'd better use cuetools. I remember that when I manually deleted the header, the cue sheet still wouldn't load in F2K ... I recall medieval cue splitter lasted no more than 5 min on my HDD

i just use mediveal cue splitter to split cue files, not to create ones  or to try some cues that dont work

i used the normal editor (used the replace .wav with .flac "tool") to edit the cue files, but ill try if your trick will work out

Cuetools is the best way to split CDImage.

Track quality has nothing to do with audio quality, 100% Track quality only means that there was no re-read needed when ripping.

Edit:
Well if you modified the original cue sheet with medieval cue cue splitter, it may be too late for cuetools.
You should directly use the EAC cue sheet & split with cuetools.

There seems to be a problem with FILE "04 which has no TRACK but I am not sure.

It seems to me that you've made a bad copy/paste somewhere.

none of the cue sheets worked ive created so far. only used the editor to modify the cue files, only with replace-tool.

ill try if a "virgin" cue file wont have the problems when i edit them in cuetools

I assumed line 22 would be a good place to start looking, and from that it seems your cue sheet was created with the option "Append gaps to previous track" enabled. Perhaps someone can confirm whether or not foobar2000 supports this; if not, there's your explanation.

I have tried to put the things that seemed mixed up to me in the right order.

Copy paste your cue & try fixing the order of FILE & TRACK like this (but without the ####)
Keep the original cauz I am not sure of myself. Don't use the following as is because the formatting is not good, I lost the spacing when copy pasting your original.

That'll mess up indices, and may confuse programs even more. If my suspicion is correct, the user needs to rip INDEX 00s to the beginning of their tracks, not the end of the previous tracks. Until they confirm which option they have used to create these cue sheets, we won't know either way.

dv1989 is right my INDEX 0 & INDEX 1 are mixed up, but if it's due to a bad copy paste it's gonna be hard to fix, ... it's a real mess.

If you just altered the cue sheet without re-ripping the tracks, I suspect the indices will be wrong. I think that, to have an accurate cue sheet, you'll need to rip again using EAC's other gap option. But I'm getting confused--mainly because it's been ages since I used EAC, cue sheets, etc.--so I can't say for sure.

INDEX 1 was before INDEX 0 within some tracks, other than that I didn't change anything.

PS: If you have the CD, IMHO don't get a headache trying to fix it just re-rip with non-compliant gap setting.

i dont have to change anything on the gap settings, i just have to change the way to write the cue file. i always save the cue file after the rip, so it shouldnt have anything to do with the rip at all (i still use the same settings for the drive)

Wow, let's just start over since you guys seem to be pretty confused about some things...

First off, foobar2000 does not accept noncompliant CUE sheets.  A noncompliant CUE sheet is (but likely not just limited to) one where a new track is called out before a new file.  If you rip a disc using the standard method of placing gaps at the end of the previous track (which is what happens if you don't detect them prior to ripping as well) and there are in fact gaps, then the appropriate CUE sheet for this method of gap handling will always be noncompliant.  Some people get around this by using a CUE sheet with corrected gaps since they are compliant.  While they do work, they are not the appropriate sheet for burning.  Using such a sheet to burn will change the starting points of your tracks from the way they originally were.  This may result in tracks beginning somewhere into the track.  The thing is that CUE sheets are not playlists and were never intended to be used as playlists.  Considering there are other types of playlists that foobar2000 can handle that are intended to be used as playlists, I see no reason to (mis)use a CUE sheet.

Next, the problem with your cue sheet in your first post is that "    INDEX 01 00:00:00" is coming before "FILE "06 - Daphnis et Chloé, Suite No.2 - 3. Danse générale.flac" WAVE".  I don't know how it happened and I certainly doubt that EAC created it this way, but it's wrong; they're reversed.  The INDEX 01 line must come after the FILE line.
EDIT: I was wrong, the INDEX 01 in question belongs to the previous track.  This part of your CUE sheet is correct.
EDIT2: I have to agree with others in suggesting that you avoid Medieval CUE Splitter and use some other program such as foobar2000, CUETools or EAC.  It seems that every time a Medieval CUE Splitter user comes here with a CUE-related problem, the program is to blame.  I'm guessing this is the case with your error, "No track was specified for previous "FILE" command," as well.

Third, I have a feeling that your ISRC data is botched.  EAC is not able to extract this data correctly with some drives (usually those made by Lite-On which typically have an offset correction of +6, which is true in your case).  I doubt it is causing you any trouble at this point, but if you try to burn a disc you will get an error (assuming this information is indeed botched).  My recommendation is not to have EAC retrieve UPC/ISRC data which is probably has no practical use to you anyway.

Hmm, what else?  EAC doesn't support decoding of flac files, so if you wish to burn flacs with EAC, you need to decode them first.  Simply changing .wav to .flac in the CUE sheet will not work with EAC.  It will work with other software like Burrrn, however.  The 99% track quality was already covered.  EAC feels that it must request re-reads at the end of some tracks resulting in a track quality less than 100% for what would appear to be no apparent reason.  This is normal.

oh, thanks for your long post

so, when i insert the disc, open EAC, tag the disc, detect gaps, test&rip the disc and create then a multiple-file wave cuesheet with gaps (non-complicant) its the best way? or am i wrong? (edit: and let cuetools rename the cue-file)

and these non-complicant cues are supported by normal burning programs, such as nero, burrn, toast etc.? (at least when they are converted back to wav?)

I don't generally detect gaps since it makes no difference to the audio files if you put them at the end of the previous track which is the default and the standard way in which rippers do this.  All gap detection does for you in this case is allow the information to be shown in the log file.  I also don't bother with test and copy because I rely on AccurateRip.  If AR cannot verify because I have a different pressing then I use CUETools.  If I still can't get verification then I'll resort to generating test CRCs for comparison.  Other than this, yeah, that's what I do, though I don't think there's a "best" way.  Some people like single file images.  Some people like to put gaps at the beginning of the track.  Some people like to leave out gaps.  Each of these methods requires a different CUE sheet for burning copies that maintains the same timing as the original (yes, noncompliant is the proper type of sheet for gaps that are appended to the previous track).

Well I don't trust what it's telling you here.  Decompress your flacs back to wav and load the sheet into EAC (after changing the .flac back .wav) and see what it says.

In post #15, I pointed you to "non-compliant" which is maybe a misstake depending on what you want to do, Greynol is maybe right, I forget that non-compliant wasn't supported by F2K, you should use "corrected gap" if you want F2K playback of your cue, as noted in the links I posted. (I should revisit them sometimes myself  )

It's either you use "non-compliant"+playlist which is natural but not supported or "corrected gap" without playlist which is un-natural but supported.

Anyway I am a CDImage+cue user, so "non-compliant" or "corrected gap" for me it doesn't matter much to me as long as you retain the gaps information. I use CDImage+cue exactly to avoid this kind of trouble.

I have never, ever, experienced this kind of issue. I've split dozens of image/cue rips using CUE Splitter and every single track has worked just fine.

I would not use "corrected gaps" cue sheets just for foobar compatibility. That is basically trading one problem for another. If you use this type of cue with tracks that have gaps appended (default), then you will have playback problems as previously mentioned (tracks not starting from their true beginning). If you actually rip tracks with gaps prepended, then you occasionally have tracks that start with the end of the previous track.

I think it makes the most sense to either rip to an image, or multiple files with gaps appended (the default and standard method). If you choose multiple files, then make a noncompliant .cue for proper archiving and burning, along with a standard playlist file (like .m3u) or another .cue which is compatible with foobar. If for whatever reason you insist on using a .cue as a playlist file, you can use a "gaps left out" .cue, which foobar will accept (it will ignore the PREGAP statements, and play entire tracks as intended). Or you can use foo_cuesheet_creator which will similarly make cue files that disregard gaps and play tracks in a natural way.
