How do programs determine the gaps and song lengths when you are rippi

My question is no different than the title, though, I would like to add these questions for a more concise question. Firstly, how does EAC determine gaps, and how does do the different methods (A, B, and C), differentiate from one another? Secondly, how does Cueripper determine gaps and song lengths? Thirdly, has anyone ever compared the results between the two? Fourthly, is either on of these programs better than the other, from personal experience at determining gaps, and creating cue sheets? Lastly, how do these programs determine song lengths?
