Media Centre - What works?

Hi guys,

I'm moving to a new place soon and am keen to get a decent media center set up.

I've currently got a NAD 774?? amp and B&W665 speakers.  Most of my audio is FLAC.

I have a mediagate digital player hooked to the TV - I use it only for movies with a thumb drive; (but lately it hangs all the time, I think due to overheating...I think its close to dead).

In the new place, I wanna start building a movie library into the media center (mostly for kids stuff).

More importantly I want to get my FLAC library integrated as well ... but in a way that's easy to update/add to.

I guess the main requirement is the less cables the better... but having said that I don't want to spend as much as the Sonos or the other hi-end ones - although I haven't looked at those for a while)

I did see a western digital device that seemed ok, - anyone have any experience??

Anyway... just starting this search, learning as I go.

Appreciate any advice.

I have been into the HTPC thing for a few years now, and right now it's pretty much your only choice if you want, for example, to play your bluray discs from a network, or hard drives.

I think this will change with the new popcorn hour

I hope they have also improved the music playback interface. Besides that, the HP Touchsmart has a really cool interface.
Can't wait for a HD-AAC encoder :P
