Skullcandy Ink'd Headphone Comparison

Hey all,

Long time reader, first time poster.

I'm currently using the ER6i's by Etymotic Research.

I recently received a pair of Skullcandy Ink'd Headphones as a gift from a fundraiser.

Frequency Range: 20-20k Hz
Impedance: 16 ohms
Max input power 100 mW

Are there any tests I can do? How have other people's experiences been with these headphones?

Skullcandy = Garbage. Their cans are low quality headphones with a "kewl" design aimed towards teenagers as fashion statements.

Yep. And I did some research on the "Ink'd" type of headphone, and they are actually $10 earbuds, usually rated as being worse than iPod earbuds (which means it must sound absolutely terrible). I say stick with your $80 pair.

Sounds like a yet another typical product for conformists.

I was drastically disappointed with the headphones that I won.  I was at a concert and ended up winning Skullcandy's Metallica headphones.  I got home, tried them out, and put them away.  Granted, I didn't conduct any blind testing but I went into my listening experience with an open mind as I had never previously heard of Skullcandy other than seeing their ads in a few magazines.

I wouldn't say that they are absolutely terrible but I don't think that the Metallica over-the-ear set is worth the high price.  I have a $20 pair of Sennheiser cans that I always turn to and still choose to use them over the Skullcandy pair.

Edit: I am not sure if the Ink'd Skullcandy headphones are the same ones as their Metallica pair.  I just thought I would share my opinion on the pair that I own.

The Metallica version has a special feature.  All music played through them sounds clipped with massive distortion.

Cool sounds good.

For around $80 are there better headphones I can get?

Well i always thought Death Magnetic and Sh*te Anger needed more distortion, hopefully that feature will be usefull.

What style of cans are you looking for? And better than what? Your ER6i or do you just mean the Skullcandy's?

LOL . Skullcandy's will also eat your brains like a snack (hence the "candy" part), especially if you buy the SkullCrushers .

Depends on what you're looking for. I personally love circumaural headphones, and I would recommend the Sennheiser HD280Pro headphones (which are in that range). However, if you're looking for another pair of earbuds, then I have no idea

Wow  must be a record how quickly this thread went completely OT...

A quick google search will show you that low-end Sennheisers are made in China in the same factories as those garbage Skullcandies

EDIT:

looked some first reviews that turned up on google and they're quite positive on that price-scale...

If you’re implying there is no quality difference between Sennheisers and SkullCandies, we’ve got ourselves a non sequitur here.  Material selection, design, engineering compromises, and quality control mean more than location of assembly.

Creature of habit.

that's why there's that ";)" (and to stir the pot some more, have you opened skullcandies and sennheisers and compared the components? I haven't, so I can't really comment on that)
but to keep the conversation on the way OP meant, there's no actual "good" post on this thread, yet.

I have a pair. I got them for free. They sound decent. For my serious listening I've got my HD280s, but I really need open cans. I'm starting to become bothered by the isolation.

Someone mentioned the ER6i. Aren't those way out of the $80 price range?

IMO, one of the best low cost earphones around are the Sony MDR EX 71 (add alphabet soup to suit.)

Another place to look is Shure - SE 115 is their offering in this price range.
