Burrrn problem

Hello, this is my first post here!
I'm using burrrn 1.14 since 6 months without any error on a Pioneer DVR216-L fw version 1.09
Two weeks ago burrrn has abruptly stopped to work; it ends to burn with an error in the early phases of Cd-text writing with this message:

Initializing SPTI ... OK!
SPTILOCK:4,0,0: PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-216L        Rev: 1.09

cmd finished after 21.931s timeout 180s
ERROR: Writing of CD-TEXT data failed.
ERROR: Writing failed.

I was burning a spindle of Verbatim (CMC made) and I was immediately thinking of a media error.
I tried to:
1. uninstall and re-install burrrn
2. switch from SPTI driver to raw driver
3. install wnaspi32.dll downloaded from nero site in \system32 folder
4. change media type from CMC to Taiyo Yuden
5. change burning speed (I always used 10x speed from the beginning)

Nothing to do, I obtain the same error; burning process successes only with a CD-RW from Verbatim (Mitsubishi made).
Also, if you try a second attempt in writing, the DVD writer locks, you can't open the tray, and the drive is not recognized in BIOS post after a reboot! You have to turn off PC to unlock the drive.
Also again, I tried to run burrrn in linux with wine and I obtain same errors (and the same successful burning with CD-RW).
Finally, the DVD writer works fine with Nero, EAC, imgburn, burnatonce, K3b, etc...
Can someone help me???
Thanks in advance

I can't be of more help, but have you considered migrating to foobar2000 and ImgBurn for burning audio CDs? The functionality is identical.

Can Foobar2000 and ImgBurn burn images with non-compliant cue sheets? It seems to me that they can't burn these cue sheets; furthermore burrrn was very useful because decompression was automatically made at beginning of burning...
Yesterday evening I tried also burnatonce but when I try to load a cue sheet I get an error message: " wrong bin file name"... Any help for this?

This doesn't help anyway, because wnaspi32.dll is a special Nero version.
Instead of it you need a real system Aspi-driver. The best choice is Adaptec, the last version is 4.71a. You can get it here:
http://download.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_471a2.exe

After installing you have to reboot, but check the registry settings before because of a poosible bug in the installer. They should look like that:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Aspi32]
"ErrorControl"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000001
"Start"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Aspi32\Parameters]
"ExcludeMiniports"=""

HOWEVER:
Though i'm a supporter of the ASPI interface, i don't think that this would help to you. Without having further details, it looks more likely that the software (burrrn 1.14 - isn't this a beta??) has a problem with new blanks you are using!
Your remark of not having problems with Nero & Co. is an indication that the hardware-side (drive, cable etc.) would be otherwise o.k.

I completely agree with you about hardware side but the strange thing is that I burned about 300 Verbatim CMC for months without any error and now I get the same error message with Verbatim CMC and Taiyo Yuden, both in Windows and Linux, so blanks seems not to be a problem...Neither OS... very very strange behaviour! I'm thinking of a bad interaction between Burrrn and the Pioneer burner but I don't know why; I loaded last burner revision in November and Burrrn is the same version....

It might be like fixing a hangnail with a hammer but you could try updating the firmware for the drive.

The brand Verbatim is outside, but what is inside? There are many possibilities like new models, other plants etc. So, the fact that 300 items did work in the past, is no guarantee for present and future. (Sorry for that banal remark.)
For example: Three years ago i had to update Nero because the older version didn't recognize new cd-r blanks (800 mb). This was neither a firmware issue, nor had other applications any problems with that model. (The software update immediately solved the problem in Nero.)

Of course, there's no proof yet that you have the same problem with burrrn.
So i would suggest to test some blanks (no RW) from other manufacturers, but verifying that with a suitable tool before!

Firmware is already updated to last available version; in the meantime I was thinking about a misconfiguration in BIOS. It seems to me that this problem occurred after a BIOS reset due to a bad flash. But I didn't find any particular setting in it and I remember that when I installed the burner I changed nothing in BIOS...

Right.. .I was thinking about another production stock of CDs but I said that Verbatim CMC and Taiyo Yuden give the same problem.... and Taiyo are very good media

I don't believe in firmware or BIOS problems (pure coincidence) because otherwise Nero & Co. wouldn't work.

Are you sure, that both are not "related"? I would try two or three other brands for being absolutely sure.
