MP3 Input/Decoder Plug-ins

Which are some good plugins that can replace the standard Winamp plugin? I've been using MAD 0.2, but the person who developed it said the other day that the project is dead.

Are there some other plugins that are constantly in development and that are better than this one?

In what ways does the default MP3 decoder fail to satisfy you.

I was going to ask the same question. I've tried both the standard Winamp MP3 decoder and the MAD plugin via a bit-perfect optical digital connection and I can hear no difference personally.

Cheers, Slipstreem.

On a purely subjective level, MAD sounds better. I don't know why, I don't know how, I just hear the difference.

I use Quintessential player with the BASS plugin.  I was using MAD but some MP3's for no discerable reason wouldn't play with it.

I think I had that problem, too, and it had to do something with tags and Unicode... I can't recall exactly...
