Mix Plugin for DJs or partys

Hey community
i was wondering if there is any plugin for foobar2000 to mix audio components

something like this:

- 2 panels that show all mp3s listed in foobar2000
in those 2 panels you should be able to move the songs, to select the songs that should be played next
- if one song ends, it fades out, and the other one fades in...#

thanks in advance

I don't get it. Why do you need two panels? Can't you just keep adding files to the currently playing playlist?

Hallo everybody,

this is the exact same question I tried to get an answer to some days ago...
See here for reference...

I tried to find an easy way using the playback queue but this seems to be a dead end.

My solution now is a different one:

I created a new layout which contains multiple playlist views. One is for browsing my library (in whole or parts, depends oh the selected (auto-)playlist), a second playlist view (using single column playlist) is used as a sort-of-queue...

I browse my library and add certain songs to the playlist shown in single column playlist, which is the playing one. Playback order is set to default, so I have full control over which song is played when...

For this to work, you just have to unckeck "Active playlist" and "Playing playlist" in the configuration of the single column playlist view so it's fixed to one playlist.

So far, this works pretty good and is quite usable.
Since it's a normal playlist I can even re-order the songs or remove them from the "queue" which is NOT possible (in an easy way) when using the built-in queue...

I hope this bit of information is useful to you!

foo_continuator can overlap two tracks.

But really, why not use something more dedicated for this task, like Mixmeister? You add files to a playlist, and they are beatmixed automatically, and you can edit the transition types and much more to your liking.

Seriously, when i use foobar for something like this, i go with a completely different approach: two foobar instances.

The first instance is just for browsing my library and previewing tracks over headphones. The second instance then contains a playlist of currently "queued" tracks, with played ones automatically getting removed. For transitions, i just use a plain old crossfader. Thats enough for "simple" DJing on privately organized parties. If i need more precise control, then i go for a dedicated app instead.
I am arrogant and I can afford it because I deliver.

foobar is not an dj application, if you want a dj application you should look into getting one... Traktor is pretty sweet. no DJ will be taken seriously using a audio player for mixing..

hi,
for manually mix: starts 2 foobar's at the same time and rout it to different soundcards outputs...
for semi-automatic mix: use continuator plugin...it's better than an crossfading...

This is exactly what I did two or more years ago. I now plan to redo it for a little party and updated f2k to the latest version 0.9.5.6.
My problem is: I can't find anymore the preferences setting for assigning the output  to "front" respectively "rear" of my soundcard. I have two instances of f2k running, but in "Preferences"->"Playback"->"Output" I do not find anymore an option for setting the output to individual channels of my soundcard.
I am using an external USB device (Terratec Aureon 5.1 USB), the same device worked fine last time I did this (see above), but now I am missing the f2k window for setting the options. Am I doing something wrongly? Do I need a dedicated component?
Thanks for help,

latcast

Edit: Just found it by myself, it is the DSP "Move Stereo to rear channels" in the DSP Manager. I had forgotten it and was just focussing on searching for sth in Output. It's working now as desired. Cool option, FB2K is working well for me for occasional amateur DJ-ing, I have no need for a dedicated DJ software, Foobar does it all.

I suggest you take a look at Mixmeister. Grap a trial version - It's ridiculously easy to use. Basically, you load your library, MM finds BPM and Key of the songs, and all you need to do is compile the playlist to your liking and MM will automatically create beatmixed overlaps - Usually they sound pretty nice! To ensure the mixes are in key, be sure that the songs added conform to the Camelot standard - The principle is that you can move one field in eigher direction. Say you have 3B, then next song should be 2B, 3B, 4B or 3A.

If you want to advance beatmixing, editing is quite graphical  very similar to video editing actually.

The problem with "dedicated DJing" apps, is that they are obsessed with "technical harmony".... like bpm, key, etc..... this is all nice and well if what you want is just technically fluid changes, ignoring the "meaning" and "feel" of the music, plus if you tend to not change styles often.

If however your situation is that alot of your music does not comform to typical bpm and key restrictions, you care more about the mood and "energy" of tracks, your music tends to not be describable with just one genre, and you like to change between a wide range of different styles, then those DJing apps are hopelessly inadequate.

What you really need in such a case is manual tagging of all tracks according to those characteristics. Then, facets comes to help for finding tracks with matching criteria.... etc. etc..... those dedicated apps dont do that for you.

As for using multiple instances of fb2k, and mapping them to different channels, there is nowadays a plugin with which you can remap channels however you like on a channel matrix.

The name of that plugin is "matrix mixer", the filename is "foo_dsp_mm" and the author is "Skipyrich".
