Convert mp3 to mp2

Hi there,

I have 2000 mp3 (128 kb/s) to convert to mp2 (128 kb/s).

I want to use ffmpeggui, but it does not support batch encoding.

I tried to get Batchffmpeggui.net to do the job, but it gives me an error when I try to open it, therefore, at least for the time being, it is out of question.

Do you now how I could batch encode using ffmpeggui?

Thank you
Alex

Before I answer, I want to make sure you know that:

a) an MP2 at 128kbps will always sound worse than an MP3 at 128kbps (except if the MP3 is intentionally of lower quality)

b) Converting a lossy file to another lossy file degrades the quality. The degradation at lower bitrates is bigger than at higher bitrates, and 128kbps is not a high bitrate.

c) Are you sure you need MP2? Many hardware (and of course, software) can play MP3 since long ago.

d) about batchffmpeggui.net , as the name suggests, it is a .NET application, and as such, requires the .NET Framework installed. Possibly its version 2.0 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en  (Select your OS language)

Answer: Use MediaCoder: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/audio/ (It allows to use ffmpeg and its mpeg layer 2 encoder).

Why not use twolame or toolame and create a batch script?
Can't wait for a HD-AAC encoder :P

Hi there,

Yes, I am perfectly aware of your point a) and b), in the meantime I solved the problem with batchffmpeggui.net, I missed some of the latest DirectX 9c updates.

Your point c): My standalone DVD Player - Denon DVD 2900, reads only CD mp3, no chance with DVD mp3, even by changing the booktype to DVD-ROM, simply because the machine does not support DVD-ROM.
I tested and I have been confirmed.
As a result, I see no other solution than convert the format.
The quality of mp2 128 kb/s is awful, tried 160 and it's better but if I do everything 160 kb/s I cannot get 2000 files on a DVD-R DL    I will see.

Thank you for your good recommendations

Hmm.... I wonder if AC3 would sound better than MP2 at those bitrates?

Metallo: are you using UDF as the filesystem on your dvd's? ISO/UDF may be causing a problem. Also, it seems not to support dvd+r (may be wrong about this). It looks like a great player, by the way.

Hi,

I used DVD-ROM ISO only (Nero).
Denon DVD 2900 is a very sensitive player and supports DVD-R forum format, although I am sure it can read DVD+R I confirm that DVD-ROM booktype is not working.
I used DVD+R to change the booktype, given that DVD-R does not allow bitsetting.

Overall the player performs excellent quality, also as SACD or DVD-A, but often, I get upset because is too much sensitive to media used and find that other players, worth 50 €, read everything
