Behringer MS-20 SPDIF Input

I happen to own a pair of Behringer MS-20 loudspeakers. They have a built in DAC and can accept optical and electrical SPDIF input. But the digital input does not work properly @ 44100 Hz. At low signal levels it will produce clicking noise as if it lost the SPDIF signal briefly. It could be a problem with the order of some least-significant bits, but I'm just speculating. The funny thing is that at other rates both coax and opt work properly.

Interesting. We do not have any MS-20s but I have just had a quick play with a pair of MS-40s which I presume are going to be similar but with bigger drive units and power amplifiers. I only used an analogue input and so cannot comment on the digital input. Perhaps after the weekend.

Did you test the digital input of your speakers?

Off topic... what do you think of the MS-20's?  I have the MS-16's and am still not sure how I feel about them but thought about experimenting with the 40's.

I'm not really qualified to answer about the quality of these speakers (and might be biased too because a couple of things broken in this pair). I bought them only because of the headphone socket.

I had a quick check at 44.1kHz with a coaxial cable from a CD player and it seemed fine. I had intended to use a computer to check other sampling rates and monitor things with a bit more confidence but something was amiss (at the computer end) and I did not have the time to sort it. I am afraid I will not have another go.

I have a small familiarity with the MS-40s and I would judge the sound quality as good for computer speakers. I can listen to music on them which is more than I can say for most computer speakers which I find intrusive. They are not really suitable for monitoring music but for GBP 85 I think this would be an unreasonable expectation.
