WavPack coming to SqueezeBox!

Peter McQuillan has finished up a patch for Slim Device's SqueezeCenter (formally SlimServer) that adds WavPack support. This has not made it into the nightly builds yet, but it is certainly in a usable form (I have been testing it for a couple weeks now on both Windows and Ubuntu Linux). It supports virtually all WavPack files (including legacy files and 24/96) and handles all the tagging formats (even the new cover art tag). Because it utilizes the regular CLI decoder it also plays with the correction files in hybrid mode if they are present.

If you're using Linux then it's pretty trivial to try it out; just download the latest SqueezeCenter from SVN and apply the patch. On Windows it's more difficult because you have to install a Perl interpreter, but it's still doable. Also note that on Windows you must use the wvunpack.exe that's in the patch because it has a little mod that allows it to be syntactically identical to the Linux version (it ignores -o on the command line).

Here's a link to the entry in their bug database with the patch

With perhaps a little encouragement from HA members, I am hopeful that Slim Devices will get this into the nightly builds soon.

WavPack has made it into SVN on the Slim Devices site, which means it appears in the nightly builds available here:

Now Windows users can try it easily without having to install a Perl interpreter. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but Peter tells me it works great.

BTW, this now has support for WavPack images with external cue sheets using the --skip and --until commands that I added in 4.41. Good stuff!

I've been using the nightly build which came with WavPack support for a day now and it works very well for me apart from a few unrelated hiccups caused by the SqueezeCentral (the new beta version of SlimServer). Thank you all for the great work!

Note: The thread title is misleading as the support is already there and I didn't have to do any patching etc.

It's relieving to see that an audio enthusiast can still expect good support in a world dominated by iTunes frenzy.

Just as an update, SqueezeCenter 7.0 has been released so WavPack is now part of the official package!

I don't own a SqueezeBox, but that sure is good news.

It wasn't mentioned before, but this support also handles ReplayGain information, whether stored in the APEv2 tags or in the cuesheet. Very cool!
