HeadAC3he is a good all in one solution.  BeSweet is another program that would work.  Personally, I would stick with HeadAC3he.  If you have enough hard drive space, the float mode is very speedy.
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

when i make a dvd-rip i transcode the ac3-file to wav with ac3dec(gui) and then i use oggdropXPd.

it might take a bit more time, but with this procedure i never have problems with synchronisation of audio and video!

H3adAc3e hasn't been updated in a really long time..while BeSweet has been. Anyway HeadAC3he uses DSPguru's stuff (author of BeSweet).

HeadAC3he never worked on my winxp athlon xp system ...

besweet did work but when i used to use it, i always had sync problems. these are surely caused by the fact that, i extracted the ac3 file from the vob instead of ripping it directly to a single ac3 file.

i can not complain about the results i get the way i transcode ac3-wav-ogg.

i suppose that besweet is able to transcode from ac3 to ogg in one single step? this might be worth changing the proggy

Did you use Smartrippers 'stream processing' feature for that ? If so, then yes, there are problems to be expected ( in fact i had the same ), as Smartripper was either

- reading the wrong delay values from the DVD IFO file
- tagging the file name different than DVD2AVI, such that BeSweet maybe couldnt read it automatically adn set the correct delay value ( ac3dec doesnt do anything like this BTW ).

In 1st case, use DVD2AVI to extract the AC3 file from the VOBs, in 2nd case you can alway set the delay value manually in BeSweet GUI.

yes, i did so...

and i used flaskmpeg for extracting the ac3. pleeze dont blame me, it was the only program that did not crash at once i started it and i was fairly new to dvdripping.

it might be a very simple program, but it works!

you can feed BeSweet directly with the VOBs, it will encode to ogg vorbis + compensate for the A/V delay.

Besweet's interface is as messy as they get...

As for HeadAC3he problems, there are 3 different sets of DLL's to use for the programs, the old ones for pentium 1 and 2's and such, newer ones for athlon xp's, pentium 3, and then a set for pentium 4's.  Make sure get the right one.  HeadAC3he compensates the delay perfectly, even if you rip the AC3 separately in SmartRipper.  Plus it can convert to 5.1 oggs, dolby pro logic II, as well as having an interface which is much better and intuitive than the BeSweet GUI, imo.

Besweet's interface is commandline. what could be so messy about that ? -input switch, -output switch, etc'..
and if you're too spoilt to read the fabulous manual, there are something like 10 Graphical front-ends for BeSweet, and many many guides all over the internet. google will find something like 40 guides, i believe.
here's an example guide about Vorbis encoding using BeSweet :
English - http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/oggmachine.htm
Greek - http://greek.doom9.org/indexd41d.html?/oggmachine.htm

not even, but only. HeadAC3he accepts only AC3 inputs, not VOBs. therefore it cannot caclucate the A/V delay by itself.
only BeSweet can do that.

What's with the attitude?

I never said it was a bad program, but IMHO kind of messy aesthetically.
That's all.
