FLAC tester

Hi,

Sometimes I download FLAC files on the internet can it see if a file is corrupt?

Can anybody tell me what FLAC tester actually tests on?

Cheers

Maybe Flac itself?

Code: [Select]
flac -t <files>

will test integrity of .flac files.

If you prefer the GUI there is also AudioTester.

I have ran a scan and found some errros.

Are these music files corrupted?

I hope somebody can explain me the error message.

TIA.

since they're at 0m 0s they might just have id3v2 tags on the front.

Hi jcoalson,

Thanks for your reply!

Can I change the flac so there is no ID3V2 in the front?

An ERROR_MD5_CHECK is this also repairable?

Kind Regards,
Jordi

I found a way of removing the ERROR_LOST_SYNC error on some tracks.

I convert the FLAC files to WAV and re-encode them to FLAC again with proper Tags. Is this workaround ok? Unfortunately some files are not able to re-encode to FLAC cause of errors during the Encode process.

I know there was an issue with 1.1.3 when trying to convert FLAC to FLAC with files having ID3v2 at the start.

I thought Josh did something about this in 1.1.4, but I may well be wrong.

It may be worth trying to use FLAC.EXE to re-encode one of these files though - unless Josh comes along beforehand and gives you a better answer.

hmmm, i assumed that for flac to decode there would have to be no errors....unless you change the default to ignore errors on decode.

so decoding to wav and encoding to flac again isn't going to help improve the flac file, it will just hide the error that was there.

testing is to see if the flac file is the same as the original.  if you decode and then re-encode you lose the feature , as now it's just going to tell you if it's the same as the dodgy wav file (containing whatever errors the flac tester found) that it was sourced from.

I just installed the latest version of FLAC (1.2.1b) and it comes with FlacTester 1.3 - is this the same testing code as incorporated in AudioTester 1.6?  I just tested all my existing flac files using Audiotester and am wondering if there's any benefit to also scanning with FlacTester.

Thanks!
