ReplayGain scan as album (by tags)

Hello,

I have selected all my music in one folder with 20 Albums of MTV Braun Eurochart vol.1, 2, 3 etc.

Than I applied ReplayGain; "Scan selection As Albums (By tags)" instead of "Scan Selection of Single Album"

But I noticed when I do "Scan selection As Albums (By tags)" album gain en track gain is the same value.

As you can see in Foobar2000 my album tag is for all the tracks in the same album is the same.

Can anybody tell me why Foobar2000 process the "Scan selection As Albums (By tags)" as track gain?

I hope my printscreen makes it a bit more clearer.

Kind Regards
Jordi

Albums are grouped by the pattern defined at Preferences, Advanced, Tools, ReplayGain Scanner.

The default value is: %album artist% | %date% | %album%.

%album artist% checks for an ALBUM ARTIST tag, and if none if present, it falls back to ARTIST.

Since the ARTIST tags are different for each track in those albums, each track is considered as an individual  album. To fix this, open the Properties dialog for those albums and set "Album Artist" to a consistent value like "Various Artists".

Thanks Frank, is it not better and safe to set the default value to "Album Title" because this unique by every album.

BTW. I have the same headphone Sennheiser HD650

Another problem with ReplayGain when I have albums ripped with EAC.

I have given EAC in the command line --replay-gain. When I treat this album "Scan as album by (tags)" it applys replaygain as track.

Is it maybe again something wrong in the metadata?

Best Wishes.

That tag simply shows the reference loudness. Check the "Properties" tab of the properties dialog box to see if replaygain has been applied. You should see something like:

Code: [Select]
ReplayGain
Track Gain:
Track Peak:
Album gain:
Album Peak:

The tag in your screenshot simply states that RG was scanned with 89 db as the reference.

Yes, I have looked in the properties tabblad. With EAC all the tracks get different values while it is the same album.

You can remove the %album artist% from the pattern string "%album artist% | %date% | %album%". That shoud do the trick.

It is also possible to configure foobar to scan for ReplayGain as albums by the directory structure of the files. It is not available by default. Go into Prefrences -> Display -> Context Menu. Right-click on ReplayGain and choose Insert Item, and then Command. Scroll down and you should see "Scan selection as albums (by directories)."

Album setting cannot be found in the current version (1.5.4). How can I get it back?
