I can't load the mp3 gain software

OK, here is what I got: Vista Ultimate/WMP11/Media Center/Xbox 360 used as an extender/and lots of music.

Problem: I have downloaded the normal download 1.2.5? and the 4??src.  I extract files and there is no application or install file.  So, it just sits on my computer.  Any idea what I am doing wrong?  What am I missing?  Please/thanks for any help.

I take it that you downloaded from the official site. There you have multiple options what to download. Please tell us which one you downloaded, so we have a start at where to help you.

These two:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mp3gain..._5.exe?download

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mp3gain...rc.zip?download

The first one says "Some microsoft files are missing that mp3 gain uses. Go back to site and down load full version.  Which I take must be the second link?  That one does nothing but extract

Now an another error when I tell it to install anyway

"Component mscomctl.ocx is one of the dependencies not registered"

I did, the Gui shows now.  A lot of the files have Y  under clipping column.

OK, the program is setting values on mp3s only.  Can it set values on wma's or do I have to convert all of them to mp3?

No. It only works for mp3s. Hence the name. Don't convert them to mp3, they'll sound like rubbish, although they probably do already. You'll have to re-rip them from the original CDs. If you just want to play them at an equal volume without modifying the actual files windows media player has a 'volume equalising' function (i don't remember the exact name, its somewhere in preferences) or you can use foobar2000+replaygain.

MP3Gain is  only for use with MP3s.  If you want to work with WMAs, check out ReplayGain.
Also, if you convert your WMAs to MP3s, you will lose quality.
