Looking for a 2.1 Speaker System

Hi there,
I'm looking for a 2.1 speaker system for my computer. It should be black or/and silver(something like that) and cost up to 50€(around 67 US $). I don't want to import it, so it should be available in Germany(or at least in Europe. if you don't find a German shop, just post the name of it). Frequency should be around (at least) 40Hz ~ 20kHz.

do you have something like that for me?

EDIT: heres a updated list, what my speakers should be like(things above don't count):
- controllable bass
- great for listening to orchestra and alternative rock
- company shouldn't be unknown(i mean it should be a company like creative)
- don't look to stupid to put them next to my computer
- colors, don't matter that much, just show me some

I'm the proud owner of the Guillemot/Hercules XPS 2160 system. At the moment it's around the €50 max. you specified and offers decent sound for its price class, though I can't provide any actual figures concerning its frequency range (the manual is in some carton up on the loft  ). The loudspeakers' design is also pretty stylish and they're available in the colors you asked for.

this one looks good so far. can you tell me if the speakers are demagnetized(didn't find any about this in your link)? its important because i place it next to my monitor.

Yep, they are. The magnetic shield has proven being well enough to place them next to the monitor, at least my speakers find themselves close to it and don't cause any troubles.

and what about the power supply? is it demagnetized too(my last one wasn't)?

Try the Creative I-Trigue 3220.

I remember paying ~40€ and it succeded quite well on a review on tomshardware.de though I'm unable to find it right now.

I really can't complain. Especially the bass is awesome.

In case you decide that you are willing to pay more and dont mind import, consider getting a Klipsch 2.1 system - you will never need a new 2.1 PC speaker system again until it breaks someday. It is quite possibly the best 2.1 PC-Speaker system ever produced in the consumer-pricerange.

edit: or if you dont want a sub, or your budget is lower, then the klipsch promedia ultra 2.0 is also one of the best 2.0 pc-speaker systems (goes for around 100$)

@lyx,
it might be good, but i just can't pay 3 times the price of what i actually thought...

@slacker,
yes, those sound quite good, but the speakers look so stupid...

what about the Creative I-Trigue 3330 2.1? Is that one good?

It's a typical subwoofer-internal power supply which doesn't feature any additional shielding. In general I'd recommend you not to place a subwoofer on the desk or too close to the PC case, it should find its place a bit afar from other devices. In my case the subwoofer is positioned on the left below my desk, the PC tower on the right.

Besides, the system's frequency response is from 20 Hz - 200 Hz for the subwoofer and 200 Hz - 20 kHz for the satellites. Crouching below my desk down to the subwoofer revealed the data on its back.

I have a Terratec Home Arena 2.1, and I'm quite happy with it. Specs:

2 x satellite speaker - 2-way - 3 Watt - 100 - 30000 Hz - wired
1 x subwoofer - 10 Watt - 30 - 200 Hz - wired
(Total 16 Watt RMS)

Satellite speaker: 1 x midrange driver - 75mm, 1 x tweeter driver
Subwoofer: 1 x subwoofer driver - 100mm

Mine has an external power supply, even though some websites claim it's internal (I prefer external).

It was a bit overpriced 3 years ago, but I guess you can find it cheaper these days.

The version I'm talking about is this one:

There's another version that lacks 2-way speakers; dunno if it can be recommended.

I bought these a while back. I paid $70 for them (brand new) which is probably the most anyone should pay. They sound great to my ears, although sometimes the midrange is a bit lacking.

Logitech speakers are boomboxes (insane bass, high treble, low mids). The sad thing is that while its lots of bass (way too much) it is also very inaccurate - this is even the case for the top-of-the-line models of logitech. Sufficient for action movies and ego-shooters? Yes. Sufficient for music? Only if you haven't seen much and therefore cannot compare.

Thank you for summarizing my post, lyx, I'm glad I have you to tell me things I already know about things I already own (which I already stated).

No, you did not state them clearly - you only embedded "a lack in the mids SOMETIMES" sandwich-style in a lot of praise.

It seems that you feel offended by someone criticizing equipment which you own. For your information, this thread is about helping someone else to make a good buy - it is not about sugarcoating your buy to the disadvantage of said other person. If you cannot live with this kind of "discrimination" then i propose that you avoid threads about PC-speakers - that way you can live happily with your existing beliefs, without anyone disturbing your fantasy.

I thought that I made it fairly clear more than once, with the phrases "the most anyone should pay" (regarding how I paid about half of retail price for them) and "great to my ears" (indicating a subjective claim).

You know what Lyx? I've had these speakers for a while now. And everywhere I go online mentioning them, I get bashed. I listen to these speakers every day, I know what they're like, and I'm NOT disagreeing with you or any other reviews. HOWEVER, I would like to state that every single human being (100% laymen, no audio experts) that has listened to these speakers has liked their sound. I hope you realize that not everyone is an audiophile/audio perfectionist. And I especially want to point that out in light of the original post. He wasn't asking for the best speakers known to mankind, he wanted (relatively) cheap 2.1's with a certain frequency response. And I suggested that, no?

stop here right now. hushypushy, your post wasnt that clear and it was nice of lyx to give some details on your 2.1 speaker set.

im don't want to have insane bass or anything like this. im listening to orchestrations and things like that, so i need something which has good midtones and doesn't look too stupid to place it next to my computer. i also dont want an unknown 2.1 system. i want something from creative, something from a well known company.

heres a updated list, what my speakers should be like:
- controllable bass
- great for listening to orchestra and alternative rock
- company shouldn't be unknown(i mean it should be a company like creative)
- don't look to stupid to put them next to my computer
- colors, don't matter that much, just show me some

you can also list bass and speakers separated.

I have Altec Lansing VS4121 speakers, bought them for 70€ from a local shop, you might be able go get them cheaper.
- They have adjustable bass and treble.
- I don't listen to alternative rock, the closest thing I have to that is Blink-182 (punk rock), it sounds good. I don't have anything performed by large orchestras but I'm afraid you won't be able to hear every instrument clearly on low budget speakers.
- I'm sure you heard about Altec Lansing.
- They look good:)

You can read a review with many pictures about them. He is complaining about the midrange, I don't find anything wrong with it, but I'm certainly no audiophile. Just don't place them on tablecloth:) I found the bass a bit strong, so I turned it down a bit. What I particularly like is that the sound is clear even at low levels, I listen to music sitting in front of the computer with the speakers placed next to the monitor. It has fairly long cables, so you can place the sub anywhere you like.

thanks bluewing. i looked into them and i think the Creative I-Trigue 3220 would fit me much better(midtones and so on). i decided to buy the itrigue, even if they look stupid. after all its also cheaper than the vs4121. the best point of the AL is that it looks much more better

thanks for your help anyway, but (i think) i decided to get the creative 3220.

but still, if someone knows something even better, it would be nice if you post it here, because i still haven't bought any boxes!

Me too, they're really good (in my opinion), though I can't compare them to the 10,000$ sound systems that people here have.
And if you believe theres not a chance to die...
