Audition/Cool Edit Pro LAME filter

Does anyone have an Adobe Audition/Cool Edit Pro LAME filter that actually works with 3.97?  I tried using CoolLAME but its not working.

I've had the FhG filter installed for a while and I want to make good quality LAME mp3s directly from Cool Edit Pro instead of using an external program such as RazorLAME.

Sorry, it's the first I've heard that it didn't work and, having just tried it, I can confirm that you're quite correct.  I'll take a look and see if I can find the problem when I have the time.

Hmm, CBR works but ABR and the Presets fail so it's probably not anything too dramatic. I'll report back when I have something.

What exactly is "Adobe Audition/Cool Edit Pro LAME filter"? ACM, DirectShow, anything else?

It's basically a frontend to the standard dll.

I can't even get the mp3 extension to show up in the open and save menus.

How'd you get it to work?

You need to place the filter (.flt) and the lame_enc.dll, of your choosing, in the root CoolEdit/Audtion directory/folder. Don't place them in either the 'filters' or the 'Plug-ins' directories as they won't be seen!  You would think that a directory named 'filters' would be the logical home really, wouldn't you?

It seems the filter opens the output file in "write only" mode. When writing the LAME/Xing info header, LAME wants to "read" the beginning of the file to skip ID3v2 tags. That's why CBR seems to work, presets don't.

I've just uploaded a new version that appears to function correctly. I've changed the WriteVBRHeader call to WriteInfoTag and that seems to have fixed it. The incorrectly generated file from the old version could be fixed by running the VBRHeader fix routine from within foobar.

Ok the new version shows up in my save menu but not the open menu.  Anyway around this?

It's only written as an encoder, not a decoder. There's really nothing wrong with the standard decoder.

Can someone please explain what exactly must be done to make cool lame to work in CEdit 2000? Or must be CEdit Pro? I have tried everything, but can not get lame in 'save copy as' field :-( I have already tried to find answer searching through the forum but didn't find it. Please, if someone can write procedure. Thanks on your time. (have extracted coolame .ftl in CE root, and lame.dll) Where to put lame.exe? please?

If you have both the filter and the dll in the root directory, then I can only assume that it doesn't work with CE2000. It certainly works with CEPro and Audition. Sorry!
