Winamp Rock Preset -> Foobar2k

Since I have no idea how equalizers work, can somebody make a preset file based off of the rock preset from Winamp?  Foobar2k has so much more bars than Winamp.

Thanks

Some of the presets in that pack have good qualities, but none of them overall are very good, in my opinion.  It would be nice to have common WinAmp eq presets ported.

The Equalizer in foobar is superb! But, as far as my experience goes, it is difficult to have a universal setting. That's because--1. As I've said, it is too good, sensitive (?!), and
                        2. Different speakers can respond differently to a single setting. My speaker's potato turns out to be someone else's tomato! Like that.

But if you're still interested, I could send you a couple .feq files, based of course on my own system.

@Riotblade: I believe you can't port winamo settings when foobar has more and other bars.

Why don't use this topic to share some .feq?

I'm not sure that will be useful...

Remember, the original use of equalizers are to nullify the effect of the room; i.e. suppressing room resonance, and boosting room damping.

Take for instance, in my church we have an EQ tuned properly to nullify the room effect; the sliders look like a wild rollercoaster ride. We put an acrylic cover over the EQ to prevent people from fiddling with the EQ settings, accidentally or not.

After the original EQ we do use another EQ to provide boost/suppression if the tape/recording/equipment is lacking.

But anyways, the effect of a standalone EQ depends greatly on the speakers and the room; what sounds great to one may sund crap to others.

Yeah, that's it! Otherwise, we would be satisfied with Winamp, Musicmatch... and their "pre"sets. But we are not! So foobar comes in to clean up any craps.

My suggestion is that anyone wishing to get to know the eq. should didicate oneself to it. To me, two weeks practice helped open my ears.

Luck!

I should've included this in my previous posts.

Being fond of setting up the equalizer, I have stored a number of .feq's, and would
really love to have a new function to this end. And that is, to be able to see
the "name" of the preset I'm running at the moment.

This function I'd wanted for a long time, and I don't think that it'd be difficult at all
to incorporate in the code. Further, I believe that would be a step ahead for foobar too.
It's convenient the same way 'Default', 'Repeat (track)', 'Shuffle (track)'... are.

Really hope this too is taken care of.

Turn off the EQ and kill all DSPs. There should be no audible differences between them (assuming no replaygain - not all media player support replaygain yet ).

foobar2000 does not "clean up crap". It's a highly customizable media player, with powerful plugins. Period.

OK, to hopefully get rid of this topic I ported the winamp rock eq.
Here it is: http://home.earthlink.net/~klyith/junk/winamp-rock.feq
Get this now, the link will turn into a pumpkin when I delete it off my webspace in a week or two.

First I tried to set everything by eye & what winamp reported from its frequency / decibel report when you twiddle the eq sliders. It was ok but didn't sound right, from which I conclude winamp is a filthy liar. So I then hand tuned the last few decibels with the use of audacity's frequency analysis and several uses of foobar's converter with DSP active.

Frequency spectrum graphs:

Open them in tabs, look how close they are!

No abxing, no tests with different music, no extra effort of any sort. I don't really care. But anyone unhappy with my result could do the same thing as I did, audacity is free. All you have to waste is your time.

You're right about that preset.  It does sound pretty muffled.

I didn't know audacity allowed to do neat things like that.  Maybe we can change this to an EQ explained thread...
