foobar2000 0.9.1 as a shoutcast source?

Hello

I really love foobar2000, but i want to host a shoutcast server for some of my friends and such, limited to 10 users and i want to stream with 24kbps or 32kbps AAC+ / HE-AAC. This works perfectly with the latest Winamp version and the Shoutcast plugin/server.

But if it is possible, i would really like to be able to use foobar2000 as the "playback center" instead of Winamp. And i really want to stream with AAC+ / HE-AAC (i have Winamp 5 Pro license and Nero license for AAC codec usage) since i guess it offers the best quality at those low bitrates (AAC+ v2 with PS sounds incredibly good at 24kbps or 32kbps i think).

Can this be done? Or are there any equal alternatives?

AFAIK is Oddcast the only possibility to stream to a server using foobar. But it is still not recompiled for 0.9.x. Im waiting for it, too....

Yeah it totally needs a shoutcast DJ plugin !! :/

I had to use winamp for our lan setup (streaming stuff to the box connected to the stereo) which sucked.

Yes. And Oddcast doesn't support AAC+ / HE-AAC neither, which is very nice codecs for streaming on limited bandwith (24-32kbps AAC+ v2 with PS is actually quite acceptable imo).

You can use oddcastv3 standalone version, which will stream whatever comes  from your soundcard to either a shoutcast or an icecast2 server. I'm not sure whether it allows aac encoding, however ogg and lame mp3 is supported (in order for LAME mp3 encoding you need the lame_enc.dll). So perhaps with the appropriate dll you could encode your stream to AAC.

I've been streaming aacplus with foobar and oddcast for probably a year now, ever since winamp came out with the aacplus.dll, but I'm sure that it can be done is old news to most of you here.

According to the guys over at oddsock, I don't think we will ever see a Oddcast for Fb2k 0.9 in the forseeable future. The new 0.9 SDK is too complex and will require a lot of rewriting.

And I don't think oddcast is the best anyway. I like some of the features, but really the Nullsoft SHOUTcast DSP plugin is much more robust and also supports AACplus out of the box when installed on a recent Winamp version. If Nullsoft SHOUTcast DSP also supported streaming to IceCast WITH mountpoints I would be very happy. But I guess you can just as well just set up multiple DNAS processes listening to different ports. It's just that mountpoints are more slick. Oh well, the AOL/Nullsoft Ultravox streaming platform fixes all of this, but is more for professional grade streaming and uses NSV as stream format.

What we need for FooBar2000 is a new streaming plugin that utilizes Winamp/NSV encoding plugins (those enc_*.dll ones) or command line encoders (that also encodes to STDOUT) for sourcing to streaming servers.

I don't know about the legality of loading NSV (they really are NSV plugins, but are also used in Winamp's CD ripping system) encoding plugins but there are several other programs including Oddcast which makes use of them.

For professional broadcasting you would never use a player (such as Winamp or Foobar2000) as source anyway. Semi-pros and some pros use SAM Broadcaster and pros use Windows Media Encoder and the like.
