Encoding with LAME on Mac OS X

So, what are my best options for this? At the moment, I'm using Blacktree's iTunes-LAME software, with an updated LAME codec I found from a website that I can't find any more… my question is, are there better encoders out there (for the Mac, of course)?

Also, one other question - is the preset '-V 0 --vbr-new' abbreviated to APS or APX? Or 'V0'? Thanks!

You might want to check out http://sbooth.org/Max/ for a ripper/encoder that suports LAME and several other formats.
