Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA - Good?

Hi,

I've plugged a Notebook to my stereo (see screenie!). A Notebook which I mainly use exactly for this reason, for playing audio with all the advantages I have, because this is very flexible.

I want to achieve best quality as well.

A MUST is clean sound, I do not want noise or hiss.

Can anyone recommend the sb audigy 2 zs pcmcia? I'm thinking about buying this one. There's another pcmcia soundcard which is too expensive for me (200 EUR), the SB is @ 100 EUR.

There's also a cheap usb device from m-audio, but I've heard with usb there may be cpu issues.

It's all about playing audio, no production etc (latency is not a topic, also line in not needed).

No, avoid it like the plague. That's just my opinion though as I despise Creative with a passion. I would look into the M-Audio Transit, it might be out of your price range unfortunatly. It's the only other PCMCIA device I can think of.

I own Audigy 2 (with a 2.1 Creative speakers T3000) and I'm very pleased. Nothing to complain about noise or hiss and the quality of the sound is very good.

Thanks for any answers.

a) why avoid it?
b) AFAIK the M-Audio transit is usb only AND even cheaper than the SB Audigy!?

Creative's audigy/live line werent great,
Mostly software based and overpriced.

Audigy 2 ZS informally fixed this..
x-fi is a great product.

I guess creative had to come up with something considering the large amount of money they have made selling cheaper hardware in the past decade
