Sony NW E-407 with Linux

Is there a possiblity that i will be able to use my Sony E-407 together
with linux before i die?

I don't really like the software they included (SonicStage it's called)

however, i read that you cant just drag and drop mp3 files.
in linux i can read and write to/from the device but the player won't do anything.

you can drag and drop files using the "mp3 file manager" which is windows only.

files dropped onto the player without using any software are not recognized for playback.

I don't know of any linux software for sony players.
