Sony's AAC encoder

As some might already know the new playstationportable from sony is supposed to handle playback of MPEG-4 AAC audio and SP, AVC video (all in the .mp4 container)

of course sony also provides software which lets people convert their own audio/video files to .mp4 called MSSW-IC2 Image Converter 2 Software
i assume this software includes an aac encoder

did anyone ever tried this? hows the quality? does anyone know whether sony developed these encoders on their own or uses encoders from other vendors?

the samples sony provides itself here seem to be indeed vbr and maybe even he-aac too? (all (faad2 based) tools tell me they have 24000hz, but play at 48000hz)

maybe sony's encoder is also nice for useage even if you dont own a psp
I know, that I know nothing (Socrates)

Foobar2000 reports the following:

bitrate = 64
samplerate = 48000
channels = 2
aac_profile = LC AAC
codec = AAC
