No "view New Posts" On This Board?

Hello,

Just wondering about the "view new posts" feature (and "go to first unread post"), I didn't see these features (and I don't think I can live without 'em  ).  Any info?  Thanks...

Try using "Today's active topics" for now, it's almost the same. And i think that the "view new posts" option can be added later.

There's a hack for ibf 1.0, but what I just read, IBF 1.1 should have native support for it.
So it will be there sooner or later...  B)

Also in 'Today's active topics', the brightness of the envelopes on the left indicate if there are new replies in a thread. See legend at bottom. Right?

Unfortunately, this doesn't work too well. To activate this feature, one needs to log out and then log back on, and then the board marks all posts made before the previous log-in as "read", whether or not they were opened.

This also doesn't seem to work for lazy people like me who use persistent cookies to remember their login/password.

Of course, the only way to remedy this would be to build a big database for every user, marking the last time they loaded each thread. I would find this feature invaluable, but others might not feel the same way.

I don't think it would be too hard to implement this kind of user tracking, although I could be totally wrong.

Interesting... I see no way to delete unwanted posts either (requiring the "Edit -- Never Mind" kludge for people who change their mind).

So far, my impression is that speed is better ("lite" feel), looks (well, matter of personal taste but I hate it) and features... useless.  Great software to set up boards for teenagers discussing their favorite dates and romance novels.

well, at first glance the new board is worse, but let's see if it plays out that way in the long run.  I already miss the front page's small list of active topics.

That depends on what you mean.

IBF may not have quite as many of the more "refined" features that VB did, but it's significantly faster, it's less resource intensive, it's free, it's cleaner, easier to modify, it has an API for writing extensions, etc.

Those things could easily qualify as making ibf significantly better than VB.  This is the way I view it.

Give me some time to get things as usable as they were before, it will come with time.

Most of the things people are complaining about still, I've already said I'm working on addressing (the front page being one of them).

IBF is capable of doing every thing that vb does, and then some.

Thanks Dibrom... speaking for myself, I'm just reporting from the perspective of a user, as the board is right now.  If you have the free time to get the features up to the level of the previous board, then great... I'm not complaining, just pointing out some first impressions (the shiny looks don't make up for sharply decreased usability).

Respectfully,

f.

For me at least, the "today's active topics" works nearly identically to the old "view new posts" -- it shows all posts that have had new replies (or that are new posts), newest to oldest.  The ones which have had activity since I last visited have a little image () to the left of the subject indicating that (and clicking on that image takes me to the first new post in the thread, like before).

Fair 'nuff, I just subscribe to the theory "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."  Of course, what's working from a user standpoint may be broken from the standpoint of the moderators, and whoever's maintaining the board and paying for bandwidth.

will you be able to make it automatically track any threads that you've participated in? (yeah, I'm going through manually now to track the ones I still want to track, since all subscriptions from the last board didn't make the transition)
