I've been hearing about this for years now.  My housemate is in a foreign country at the mo, maybe I should replace Yngwei with a modified moggy.

Would save thousands on the electricty bill where I have to continually hoover up cat hair to avoid sneezing once every 20 seconds

I'd be personally interested in miniature pet elephants.
Always defragment your MP3s to avoid subtle lack in harmonics.

I would be interested in what kind of genetic engineering they are doing to get rid of the so called "cat allergen."  The description they gave on their website is of course vague, like you would expect of any company of this sort.  They say their technique is "gene silencing."  To me this means they are using some sort of RNA interference against this mRNA of this particular glycoprotein of the cat.  I can't see how this would take till 2007 though, this kind of technology is fairly readily available today.  Recently, I have been doing some research into this technique.  It is really fascinating.  Without getting too technical, I'll explain how it works.  Basically, what you do is inject the gene of interest on double stranded RNA.  Your RNA is all single stranded.  You have enzymes which can recognise double stranded RNA and can degrade it.  They degrade it into short strands which can be used to identify single stranded RNA though complementary pairing.  These single stranded RNA are the ones you want to destroy because they make proteins.  Pretty cool huh?  This has enormous medical applications.  It has even been suggested as a possible treatment for HIV (which I really believe has tremendous potential to work).

* Making Klingon's, Ferengi's, and the Borg, oh yeah and a real Starship Enterprise to that we can boldly go where no one has gone before.
* Making talking and walking Chia Pet's that take a shower to grow.
* Making dogs that don't poop, or scratch themselves.
* Creating jobs that pay you 75% more with extra benefits not to show up.
* Making non-reality T.V. shows.
* Making cars that encourage the driver to lose weight with comments like; if you stop eating those cheeseburgers in me and lost 20 pounds my mpg would increase by 2.

Hypoallergenic Dogs?

Crap factoid time:  Its pretty much the saliva that unfortuante people like me are allergic to.  Not the hair.  Of course, the hair has saliva in it...

They probably want to spend a few years monitoring the cats to make sure there aren't any noticeable side effects from their gene alterations.

Yeah, right.  Sorry but I'm sure they really don't care if the cats are really ok or not.  As long as they don't keel over and die I'm sure they really don't care.  Certainly they aren't going to be monitoring these cats for a couple years when they could be making profits.
