How to eliminate vocal in a song?

Is there any software to eliminate vocal in a song that still maintain the stereo. So that the song would be still stereo and not mumbling.

I know it's not just as easy as subtract the left channel with the right one. It's far more complex than I thought.

Even an undefined problem, since vocals can appear in many ways : background voices, synthetic voices, sampled voices... How to decide which ones to keep and which ones to remove?

Looks like it works similar to the "vocal cut" preset, found in Cool Edit's Channel Mixer...

On the same topic: If I have the ordinary version of a song, and an instrumental version which is exactly the same just without vocals, is it possible to subtract one from the other to get a version with vocals only?

A song with its vocals removed generally has a lot of the other music removed as well, and it sounds extremely bad. I would try searching for an instrumental or kareoke version of the song instead...

Trying to remove vocals from songs are like trying to remove extremely blurry objects from a picture without leaving any parts behind nor removing something that shouldn't be removed... As of yet, that is 100% impossible... No filter in the world can fix it at the moment... You could probably do it by hand, but when it comes to sound, it would be way to time consuming...

If the person who masters the music doesn't use filters like reverbs and echo, then it would be a lot easier, but still way more difficult than you can imagine since the voice constantly shifts frequencies and strenght... :/

Hmmm... It looks like it's impossible to remove vocal perfectly using today technology. But, how to do remove by hand? Do you mean using kind of wavelet compression tech.?

Unless there are some processing software I'm not aware of, it looks MUCH more easy to replay the song with all instruments, but without voice, than to remove a recorded voice
