At least they did deliver a changelog this time ...
The name was Plex The Ripper, not Jack The Ripper

The AAC encoder is updated but no Parametric stereo or Downsampled SBR yet.

(IIRC you need to get NeroVision for it, not the main Nero package, but I could be wrong as I always update them simultaneously)

First time in the history of Ahead that they actually provided a changelog when they released a new version of Nero.

What is this world coming to? Next up will be the new version of Duke Nukem!
iTunes 10 - Mac OS X 10.6
256kbps AAC VBR
iPhone 4 32GB

Perhaps in the future we could even see some updates instead of only full versions

@Garf : For clarification, which dll is updated with NeroVision then? A quick search reveals aac.dll in program files\common files after Nero (main package) was installed and wasn't updated after Nero Vision was installed.

garf if i remember it right you once mentioned that ahead is working on enhancing the he-aac mode to bring ~ the same quality as lc-aac at the same bitrate, when playing it on a lc-aac only player...

is this already the case in this version?

The encoder (aacenc32.dll) is updated with the main package, not Nerovision, I just checked on my second pc.

Well, we know that they have a change-log, but they usually release the binaries first and after a few days they write the changes in the change-log. This time, both the binaries and the updated change-log have been released simultaneously.

the point is, that in the past ahead first released the programm, and then usually two days later or so the changelog came along.
I'm glad to see though this has obviously changed. let's see how it goes...

The test won't feature Nero. It lost in the AAC v2 test.

I can't provide any technical explanations of what (if anything) has changed, but after listening all morning (used VBR Extreme), I've yet to find any faults with it. It sounds brilliant to my ears.

I'm not sure 21_already meant your listening test here.

Anyway, to me it sounds a bit extreme to say "Nero lost", when it was ranked second in the test where iTunes didn't win with 95% confidence, but Nero was better than Real and Compaact with over 95% confidence. But maybe it's just me.
I have confidence in Ivan and Garf though. They will make it a winner at 128kbps once the issues in the new sfe mode are solved. And remember I said this.

Actually i kinda did mean that test. Isn't there the possibility now that iTunes may now no longer be the best implementation of AAC standing? I guess it really is too late to see if the AAC rankings have changed before the multiformat 128k test (no need to overcomplicate things), but seen as ogg got the benefit of extra time for the best tunings available...

(Edit) then again there could be another version of Nero just around the corner - guess ya gotta draw the line

Ok. Add recursive rename mp4 to m4a in (right-click) folder context menu. Figured it out how in the end, silly me....
