M-audio Revolution 7.1 X Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Can you give a clue to a newbie, folks?

I know everybody here "hates" creative, concerning sound quality. But are these new models still that bad for sampling/resampling?

I want a middle range soundcard, so which one should I take, M-audio Revolution 7.1 or Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, and why? I'm interested in both music and gaming.

Thanx in advance!

AFAIK the latest models still resample 44.1 to 48kHz; you might get away with no resampling IF you can figure your way out in disabling all Creative's effects/processors/tone controls. Better of with Revo.

Regarding the other concern, it's very simple:

1) You put music before games. M-Audio Revolution. You'll loose only 3FPS or so if using it against the other card.
Warning: IF you have low-fi speakers and need to use the smilie-style eq (bass&treble boost). Take the Creative, the Revo has no tone controls.

2) You like gaming very much and not very fond of sitting put and listening. Take the Creative card.

I've noticed lots of recent games have a "THX Certified" logo. Since i'm about to acquire a new soundcard, i'd like to know what's that THX thing.
I know Audigy 2 supports it. What about the M-Audio?

At this time, i think i'm going to purchase the M-Audio Revolution. I'm not a hardcore gamer, i'm a hardcore music listener

Any thoughts, advices or suggestions?

THX is some kind of sound certificate by LucasArts and therefore aims at movie or home cinema fans ... it features demands towards the whole setup's dynamic range (and thus output power), frequency response and so on. If you search the web you might find more info on that topic (I could only retrieve a german site during quick googling, though). Be aware that there are several THX versions with THX Ultra being the latest IIRC (incorporating 7.1 channels and dipol rear-speakers).

A THX-certified soundcard is worth nothing if there is not THX-certified amp and a THX-certified speaker setup IMO ... so as a hardcore music lover you should definitely go for the M-Audio Revo 7.1 (take a look at the M-Audio Delta AP 2496 or the Terratec EWX2496/DMX 6-Fire as well).
The name was Plex The Ripper, not Jack The Ripper
