Convert mpc to aac, best way?

I just got an ipod, and want to convert all of my mpc music files into aac.  What is the best way (and easiest) to do this.  Currently I am using Musedrop and then encoding with Itunes.  This is not an easy process as I lose all of my tags.

Most of my mps are either extreme or insane. Would you expect any major quality loss if I reencoded them as 192kbs AAC (via itunes)?

You can do this with foobar2000 using the foo_nero plugin (if you have Nero installed), I think tags will stay intact that way (but the files will not be playable (when renamed to .m4a until Apple fixes their bug).

You can also use Nero directly if you download the mpc plugin from http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org/, but tags will only be saved if the mpc plugin supports the tagging (I don't know if it does).

I saw that php script, but must confess I don't know how to use it.

There will be quality loss, but high chances are that you cannot hear it. So don't worry.

Are you transcoding your audio files to AAC for portable listening or permanently? 192 kbps does seem a little high, but of course, you do have the space to spare.

I am going to reencode permanently.  Would 160kbs be more appropriate?  I definately have the space for it....(40 gb Ipod and 160 gb of hard drive space)
(I would just reencode my cd collection, but I encoded them to mpc and sold them (I needed the money at the time))

I wouldn't think of it as a permenent thing. Keep the MPCs and just transcode them down to the lowest bitrate you can. That way if you later hear something, or if a better encoder comes out, you will be okay.

Oh, and please put a note that it's a transcode in all the comment fields.

DBpowerAmp Music Converter works good.  It also preserves all the tags from your MusePack Files.  Also it has a file renenamer and will rename all your MP4 files to M4A very quickly.
