What happens when winamp 2.x reaches 3.0? Does the world end? Do all the laws of nature reverse themselves? Isn't this like proving the version numbering system fallible, and therefore all existence as we know it will end?

eh, to be truthful they don't really use the numbering scheme correctly.  You should have version numbers like 1.02.14, where the first number is the major revision number (winamp 3 could qualify, as it's a complete rewrite of the code base), the second number is for improvements/feature additions, etc, and the third number is for the least of changes, such as minor bug fixes, etc.  Am I right? (I might not be, I'm not a programmer).  Anyway, they could have Winamp 2.1337 for all I care, but they might as well ditch Winamp 3 for all the attention it seems to be garnering...

They will be releasing a new version of winamp in the near future (how near I don't know) that will be taking the best features of Winamp 3 and intergrating them into Winamp 2.  Free form skinning is one of these features, so yes you will be able to use all the kick ass skins of Winamp 3 in the speedy app that we have grown to love that is Winamp 2.

They will be calling this version Winamp 5.  As in Winamp 2+3... get it?

That name has not been officialy decided on, but that is where it is most likely heading at this point.  Even Justin himself has been calling it that.

Winamp3 is NOT Winamp 3.0  , it is Winamp3 1.0 build 488, so it's not the end of the world

Wow. BIG JUMP, from 2.92 Leak to 2.95
still LAME 3.96.1 --preset extreme -q 0 -V 0 -m s at least until 2005.

numbers with more than one decimal point...ah the good old days, when people used sane version numbers with only one decimal point...when there were no 0.34992344299292 versions because you only use build numbers until you have a finished product which then gets designated 1.0

What's up with the links?  None of them work, either it doesn't exist or it doesn't allow me access.  Weird.

If they remove it from their official page, I think they have there reasons to this. Maybe the version is buggy and therefor not official?
I wait until they officially release it.

Don't tell anybody but when version 2.99 hits the web the Earth will disappear and we'll all turn into some smooshy space goo.

I managed to download a copy of Winamp 2.95 while the links were active. I haven't noticed any serious bugs as of yet.

It was likely pulled because a last minute bug fix was implemented, you can blame me for that it might have been the one I spotted , so the version you may have downloaded isn't the final one yet, until you see it here at.

Then it's not final..

they removed the build from their servers because they found some bugs and fixed them. now winamp 2.95 is on the servers again and you can download it again.

but this is now a fixed version, see http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=...threadid=140149

it's recommended to download it again.

hopefully this is the version that will get official tomorrow.
