Volume control suddenly does not work anymore

I can slide the slider of the volume control to the left and right side, but the volume does not change anymore. When I use the foobar volume control in the Win Mixer it works.

What could I do to make the volume control work?

Did you change any settings lately? Output device in foobar2000 or soundcard drivers?

If I remember it right, I did not change any settings in foobar, but I tried to get a USB sound card to work properly and so I tried / changed some settings in Win itself, but I also tried to resset these settings, if there was no effect on the external sound card.

According to these screenshots foobar2000 does not output any audio at all. If you use some other way to get the audio data from foobar2000 to your USB sound card (like a special DSP), it probably is not affected by foobar2000's internal volume control. Note that most of this is just an educated guess as you have not provided enough information about your configuration.

Strange. Sorry for the lack of information, I would not have known what to provide. I now changed that setting to "Primärer Soundtreiber" and it works. May be that setting was changed automatically when I tried with the Win settings, when I tried some different drivers.

Many thanks.

That's the primary sound device.

Whenever you plug in a USB audio device, Windows will automatically select it as primary sound device. So foobar2000 will also automatically start playing through the plugged-in device.
If you don't want that, you have to select a specific device.

There are different ways to send audio to your device. DS (DirectSound) is the standard Windows way that allows mixing with other applications, so for example your browser can also play audio at the same time.
ASIO comes from the recording world. It gives foobar2000 exclusive access to your audio device. No other application will be able to output sound if foobar2000 is playing music.

Alright, thank you, xnor,

So I assume, the primary sound device is quite good to use at the moment. The (output) quality of all of these available devices will be (almost) the same, I guess.

And DS seems to be, what I ever have used.

Thanks again.
