Buffer size for CD-ROM drive

I've been wondering for some time since I have enough system memory at 384 MB if having a large enough file size buffer in audio players to catch a whole single file (mp3, mpc, ogg) in one instance -  instead of constantly accessing the disc causing the drive to heat up, or recieve too much heat stress would increase the life expectancy of CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive's.

IMHO, to increase the life expectancy of CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives, you can as well use Nero DriveSpeed (from Nero Toolkit if you have Nero installed on your computer or also available separately for free). You can then choose which speed you want to use and reduce it. A 4x speed is really more than enough to read any kind of audio file written on a cd. Moreover, the sound made by the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive will be decreased too.
