1) Visit the burnatonce forum:
http://www.burnatonce.com/forums/index.php

2) Install Adaptec ASPI 4.60 (Remember: 4.60). Adaptec can say what it wants, but you'll not have any problem with Windows XP.

What about using the burnatonce forum or install aspi layer drivers against the advice of adaptec?

edit: AngelGR was faster!

so it must be version 4.60 ?

why not a newer version and why does adaptec then not admit that the 4.60 works with windows xp ?

thx so far^^

From the burnatonce forum (please, visit it):

Q. I went to download Adaptec's ASPI 4.60 but apparently it's not to be used with Windows 2k/ME/XP.
A. This is as far as I am concerned, nonsense. I have heard a huge amounts of complaints about 4.7x while I have heard of none for 4.60 on these system (I use this configuration myself). You are of course free to install what you choose but please do not post when you have trouble with any other version than 4.60.

And:

Q. burnatonce doesn't detect my drive, I am using Adaptec's ASPI 4.70 or later.
A. This is a known problem of Adaptec's ASPI 4.70, please use Adaptec's ASPI 4.60. Version 4.71 is supposed to fix the problems of 4.70 but doesn't seem to.

And:

Q. I get a blue screen when attempting to write with burnatonce
A. This is a known problem of Adaptec's ASPI 4.7x, please use Adaptec's ASPI 4.60.

disabling the XP burning engine.. is wise.

And a silly question from me: Are VOB´s ASPI-drivers not also doing the job? - I ask this, because I had once huge problems with Adaptec´s, because they are lousy programmed (only my 2 cents). I even wasn´t able to deinstall them to get rid of them, because you nowhere find a deinstallation-routine. Since then I have a big dislike of Adaptec.
So, I think VOB´s ASPI-drivers would be the better alternative - but only if they work together in this case with Burnatonce.
My used codecs and settings:
FLAC V1.1.2 -4 / APE V3.99 Update 4 -high / MPC V1.15v --q 5 / LAME V3.97b2 -V2 --vbr-new / OGG aoTuV V4.51 Lancer -q5

Ciao..

a. disable in services.
b: in theory.. speed isn`t that crucial
but real life tell you differ.
on my old teak 55s. i always burned @ 6x.
but on newer burners.. it should be ok.
to speed it up.. but i belive speed
is kinda dependent on quality of media..

the crash/hanging when aspi is not installed (and thus no devices are found) is fixed in the next version. anyway i can only recommend to install ASPI 4.60, regardless of what Adaptec says.

To disable the XP burning features:

Go to your Control Panel,  Administrative Tools,  Services. (Systemsteuerung->Verwaltung->Dienste)
Right click the IMAPI CD burning service, select properties and set it to "disabled".
Then go to MyComputer, right click on your CDRW drive, click on properties, click on Recording tab, and uncheck Enable recording on this drive.
