DVD Audio EQing

Alright- I ripped the audio off 2 DVDs, Howie Day and David Gilmour (both concerts). My problem is that when I burn them on CD and play them in another source they don't sound NEARLY as  balanced as they did on the DVD. Way too punch bass for example. I'm guessing that what is happening is that since I am ripping the surround info, it is oddly EQed when dropped into regular stereo. Any ideas on a quick fix? Maybe an auto-EQer?
Anyone have an idea if there is some kinda of program that I can rip off the stereo PCM file and turn that into an mp3? that might work better. Let me know!

Ps- I just found this site today so you may have to email me at brian@briangrissom.com

I'm saying something obvious, but rip the 2.0 track if there is one, this way you'll avoid the 5.1->2.0 downmixing. The result can sound very different.
