A couple of years late, but anyway I thought I'd announce the latest version of my MOD/S3M/XM/IT/MP3/OGG/FLAC/WMA/WAV/CD freeware player for Windows:

Features include:
- gapless OGG/FLAC/CD playback
- optional 32-bit mixing
- 9-band graphic equalizer
- full system tray functionality
- timer playback/screen saver feature
- optional background control of main playback functions
- support for multiple visuals via a plug-in system
- digital audio extraction
- encoding to Ogg Vorbis, FLAC & Windows Media Audio 9 formats
- remote freedb support
- CD-Text support

System requirements:
- Microsoft Windows 95,98,ME,NT,2000 or XP.
- Microsoft DirectX version 3 or later.
- 32-bit mixing requires WDM audio drivers.
- Graphic EQ requires DirectX 8 (version 9 required for 32-bit mixing).
- Windows Media Audio support requires Windows Media Player or Encoder 9.
- Audio CD support requires Windows 2000 or XP.
- CD-Text support requires Windows XP.

If you're not put off by the fairly standard UI (screenshot here), you might want to give it a try.

Why don't you combine player and vuplayer? In particular, I wish Vuplayer has the CDDB2 and cdplayer.ini export/import capabilities of the Player...

I decided to add freedb support instead of CDDB2, as it requires a lot less overhead (and no dealing with COM interfaces). The freedb database still holds details on most discs, even though it supports less information than CDDB2.

I have to say, sometimes CDDB2 information is much more accurate. And that's probably the only reason I use Player  To export CDDB2 info to cdplayer.ini then import it in EAC. I love that. VuPlayer seems really cool, but lack of CDDB2 is a minus for me. Why not incorporate them both and let the user decide?

1) how can you refresh cd drive contents when AIN is off, i could never find a way?

2) how about editing CD titles (retrieved from freedb) directly (like windows, in-place) instead of going to the CD Info dialog?

3) is there a way to use custom name templates for the ripped cd titles?

other than those, i like it.

Unfortunately it's not possible to use Gracenote & another CD database in the same program. I've enabled freedb submits in the latest version, so if you want to update any inaccurate information, go ahead 

I decided to leave out .ape support for the timebeing, although I have written the code for it. The decoding was much slower compared to other lossless formats (FLAC & WMA9 lossless), but I only tested with a few files compressed using Extra High, so I may have gotten a false impression.

MyMaster:
Not sure about AIN, although it sounds like I'll have to incorporate a manual refresh option. In-place editing is something I've looked at, and file-naming as well.
