Any guides to setup for X-FI?

Haven't been really able to find a guide as to what components to have enabled, settings in foobar, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Off the top of my head:

Keep it in audio creater mode, or whichever disables all the goofy effects.  Also, probably 24 bit output (I believe this is supported?), and maybe 44.1 to 48k resampling if you've got some CPU power to spare (though I hear the built in creative sampling is reasonably good).

The main thing is to turn off Crystalizer and CMSS-3D, then you can use any mode without any major quality issues. I tend to not switch modes a lot, unless i play a game with EAX, then i use the Game Mode obviously. Otherwise i mostly have it in Entertainment Mode. I checked both modes with RMAA and there isn't much quality difference at all. As for foobar2000, the only DSP i have activated is the Advanced Limiter.

Crystalizer and CMSS-3D and off?  Thought that the sound sounded better with those on?  Ill turn them off and see how it sounds, but thought people preferred those on.

As far as sound quality goes, yes, definitely turn them off. What you want is the most accurate reproduction of the music, and both these options alter the output to something that neither the musician(s) nor the producer/sound engineer intended.

Don't get me wrong, i love CMSS-3DHeadphones when i watch DVDs via headphones in Entertainment Mode, but i have it turned off for speaker mode, when i listen to music. Crystalizer might sound like a big improvement for someone that's been damaged by years of listening to the radio exclusively, but for me, it doesn't do anything. I want a pure reproduction.

TBH, whether you prefer something that may sound more audibly "nice"(subjective) or what is closer to the actual thing is based on opinion, although the vast majority of people on here and 100% of audiophiles would prefer the latter.

I have my X-Fi set up for BIT PERFECT playback using FB2k... heres what you do:

Audio Creation Mode
Enable Bit Matched Playback
Master Sample Rate set to 44.1kHz

In foobar, download the Kernal Streaming plugin and select it as your output method... beautiful!

Bit matched playback works over both digital and analog connections. In addition it will allow you to play multichannel DTS files.
