Q: About reencoding MP3 CBR320...

Hi all.
I have several MP3 files coded with LAME 3.92 at CBR 320.

Due space problem i'm thinking to reencode then to VBR,
--alt-preset standard for example...

The question:
There is a loose of quality perceptible form encode the WAV
files directly....?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Yes. There likely won't be much quality loss, but there will be some, and it might be noticeable in some parts.

Any hints on how to reencode minimizing quality loss?

Btw.. did anyone ever ABX this noticeable quality loss?
Because, if there is kind of consensus that no one can tell a .wav from a 320CBR, how come they can tell a wav->aps from a 320CBR->aps ?

PS: Just to avoid serious flaming, I'm aware that, in some very very rare situations it is possible to pick a difference between a wav and a 320 CBR. I'm also aware that there are samples, some taken from actual musics, that clearly shows the difference in perceived audio quality between a 320 CBR and a wav. But, as far as I could read and learn here, except from this very seldom passages in very rare musics, 99.99% the times its impossible to tell a wav from a 320 CBR.

Because the 320CBR->aps has double the distortion than the wav->aps or wav->CBR320
