The -Y switch

I want to have slower files than APS produces, but I think -V 4 (lame 397b) isn't good enough. I tried to make files with -V2 --vbr-new -Y. Is this preset better than -V 4 or -V 3 or should I use an other option (Note: APS files are too large for my protable)?

thx for answers

Assuming I understood your post correctly, you want higher quality encodes than -V4 or -V3 by using -V2 -Y, using the -Y switch with -V2 is a good idea for keeping bitrates down (and filesizes too) and still keeping constant high quality. If you know what the -Y switch does and are comfortable with it, then by all means go for it.

Now, if you really want slower files for your protable, i don't know.

APS is -V2. If you want a bitrate lower than -V2 and higher than -V4, then the obvious answer is -V3.

OK, but does APS --vbr-new -Y produce higher quality than -V 3 --vbr-new?
