Splitting multiple values

i have f.e. this value in GENRE tag: Electronic; Pop

it's properly formated to be able to show multiple values i think (semicolon), but it doesn't
it shows literally "Electronic; Pop" when i use %<genre>% or $meta(genre)

then if i use "split values..." from properties i get the same string "Electronic; Pop" but now it splits when using %<genre>%

Yep, that's the intended behavior, what's strange here?

The properties dialog has no specific visual indication of whether a tag is multi-value or not.
A semicolon is what is used to represent such a situation or the semicolon could just be a semicolon in a single tag value.

if i put "Electronic; Pop" by hand the field value is splited, so you a saying that in this case splitting is assumed over semicolon as simple character?

No, it's not. And that's not what you just described in the OP. If you enter a value by hand with a semicolon then all you have is one value with a semicolon in it. Splitting only happens when you run the "Split values..." function [edit](or after running the equivalent in a masstagger script)

so you a saying that in this case splitting is assumed over semicolon as simple character?
when you run "Split values..." splitting occurs over the characters listed in the dialog.

i think you know that in preferences > advanced you can define which fields are multivalue fields (as genre in this case)
so check your claims

What do I need to check exactly?

Splitting is never "assumed" when typing the value in the properties dialog, regardless of whether that field is capable of being displayed as multi-value or not (as can be declared in prefs->advanced)
