EAC and Various Artists

I use a file naming structure that organizes albums in folders according to the artist name.  When I select the 'Various Artists' option in EAC, the album is sometimes ripped to a folder named 'Various' and sometimes to a folder named 'Various Artists'.  Since the artist is automatically set in EAC for various artist compilations, can someone explain to me why EAC does this?

This is down to the value used in the freedb entry.

EAC will check its "Various Artists" checkbox if the DTITLE value in the freedb entry begins with "Various".  However, rather than using a fixed value from that point on it will use the freedb entry value, which may be "Various", "Various Artists", or presumably even "Various Badgers".

The freedb documentation states that "Various" should be used; however it appears that not all applications comply with this.

The only solution I can give is to use something like REACT, or to uncheck and re-check the VA checkbox in EAC, which will manually set the CD Artist value to "Various".

Edit: if you want more info/background you can possibly extract it from these posts in the REACT thread where we discovered this.
