hardware required to decode flac -8?

like in topic... how fast cpu should be? do you think there will be soon some portable music player which can support flac8 decode??

With flac8 I presume you mean FLAC -8 (--best).
FLAC is designed to have a decoding time relatively unaffected by the level of encoding. See this chart. So, thereby we can conclude that any device powerful enough to decode FLAC (which there are plentiful of) can also decode FLAC -8.

there are already several portable players that support FLAC (include at -8), see http://flac.sourceforge.net/links.html#hardware

there are devices with 74MHz ARM parts that play FLAC using just the C library (libFLAC).  the next release will be at least 10-20% faster at decoding as well (CVS version is already about 15% faster on x86).  so the decoding requirements are quite low.

thanks for help. i just was wondering about iAudio X5, it can only decode flac0-flac2
i think that somebody could write flac player for mobile smartphones  i going to buy nokia e70 someday, it has strong cpu and good symbian os. i think it could be good enough for decode flacs

why do you say that?  iaudio supposedly released firmware for that and other players a long time ago that supports flac -8.

i've read in some internet shop that X5 supports only 0-2 compression level, propably they aren't timely

yeah, that's old info.  actually all the FLAC players I know of support up to -8.
